This regular adjourned neet ing of the Common Council is called to
order by His Iionor lfayo r Goo rge G.JUlias.
Present: Councilmen GeoI'ge A.I.lartin,Geo:cge r,l.I'.lason,Nat He iner,
J.E.7ientvJOrth,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas. Absent:Councilnen None.
In the absence of the Gtty Attorney James S.Byers, the city
attorney's office is represented by Robert K.Byers.
This meeting is designated as a time for the continuation of the
hearing on tile annexation of terri ty to the Oi ty 0 f Gilroy bounded
on the north by Hecker Pass Road (Bodfisg Hill Road) ,west by Lliller
Avenue, south by Third Street and west by the west line of Prince-
valle Street.
The Mayor requests that RESOLUTION NO.197 be re-read.
The Uayor now asks if there is any person present Viho 'wishes to
discuss the ~roposed annexation and if there is any person present
who desires to oppose the proposed annexation. No person ap~ars
before the Council.
lZotion by Councilman Martin,seconded b:? Councilman Heiner and
carried that the City Attorney be instructed to drawn up the

necessary ordinance to annex the teritory bounded Dn,'lthe north by
Hecker Pass Road (Bodtish lJill Road), an the west by Miller Avenue,
on the south by Third Street and on the east by Pr incevalle Street,
to the City of Gilroy.
It is unanimously agreed t hat the Council shall meet, Wednesday,
February 25,1948 at 1 o'clock P.Ll.to pass this ordiname.

This being the time specified in a le~al notice calling for bids
for a deep well pump for the new city well-twp bids are presented
and read:
Lee L.Mathison (~eerless Pumps) - :1~3243.48- a lternate bid -50 UP
motor-$3053.35.
Robert P.Chappell and Leonard Moniz (Western Pmnp)-~3129.75.

It is unanimously agreed ~ place the two bids in the hands of
the Water Committee with instructions to report their findings at
the regular monthly meeting of the Com.mon Council,I.Ionday,I.1arch ,1,1948.
The Clerk states that Mr.Dwight TWist,principal of the Gilroy High
Schmol, has requested the use of Dheeler Auditorium for the high
school Spring Music Festival April 29th and a play for the benefit
of the Youth Center on ApI" il 16th.
Llot ion by Councilman Wentwo rth, sec onded by Counc ilman Stevens and
carried that the high school be granted free use of ~beeler Auditorium
April 16th,1948 and April 29th,1948.
J\'Ir.Hugh S.Hersruan now aplE ars before the Council to congratulate
the Counc ilmen on the bus inesslike manner in 'which the y have con-
ducted the affairs of the city and to urge the Mayor and Council to
agai n place their names before the electorate in the municipal election
May 3,1948.
Mr.A.G.Spencer now appears before the Council to discuss the :!!No
Parking" spaces install~d on J:'lonterey street since the installation
of the traffic lights. The L'Iayor asks tlr.Spencer to bear with the
Council on this matter, for the present.
The Mayor requests that notation be made in the minutes of his
statement of. congrat ulationsto I.lr .Ed.Hanna of the city engineer's
office, for the excellent manner in vihich he bandIed the installation
of the traffic lights on Uonterey Street.
The Mayor now asks City tlarshal Goodrich to come before the Council
and discuss the police department. After considerable discussion of
the,'poli ce department, the care 0 f the jail and an increase in salary
for the police 0 fficers.i t is unanimous ly agr-eed that the City Marshal,
all police 0 fficers and the Mayor and Counc il meet at a time to be
determined later, to discuss with the marshal and the officers the
eni1~eset-up in the police departroont.
