Present:Councilmen George A.Martin,Gaorge M.Mason,Nat Reiner, J.H.Wentuorth,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas. Minutes of the meetings of February 2nd,9th,23rd and 24th,1948 are read and approved. " The report of t he Gilroy Telephone Company showing the franc hise tax paid for the year 1947 is pr'esented am ordered placed on file. The repar t of the Coast Counties Gas and Electric Company showing the franchise tax paid for the year 1947 is presented and prdered placed on file. A report of the city aUditors,Logan and Frazer, stating that they had completed the audit of the city's books and reco rds 1'0 r the 98'") d the quarter ending Decembe r 31,1947 and had foundc1everything in order. A report from the Santa Clara County Hea~th Department inspector wi th reference to a sanitary condit ion at 118 Maple Street, is presented and read. This complaint is referred to the chairman of the Sewer Committee with the request that the Assistant Superintendent of Sewers malce an insepction and the property owner,Joe Camacho, bei: given a reasonable time to have the condition remedied. 11 U A communication is read from the Divis ion of Highways \vith reference to the handling of moneys for paymeat of traffic signals. This com- munication is oredred filed. A cmnmunication is read from Byers Bros. with reference to the Ford automobile used by the Police Department. This letter is orde~ed placed to one side for a meeting with the police officers and City I:larshal. The matter of closing Gurries Drive east of Church Street and the alley between the St.Mary's Church property and the Gurries addition is placed in the hands of the City sttorney with instructions to proceed. The fonn agreement presented by Mr. Swayne is referred to the Finance Committee for study. 984 This being the time specified for opening of bids for the garbage franch~se for the period of five years beyond the e~iIation date of the prexent franchise, one bid is presented and read. Anthony and Jesse Rubino-for a tenilx of five years from and after December 12,1949 under the same terms and conditions as set forth in Ordinance No.428 and under the sa..'1le terms and conditions provided for :ix in their present franchise or priv41ege. Motion by Councilman Thomas,seconded by Councilman Reiner and ~ , ' i .... carried that Anthony Rubino and Jesse Rubino be granted the garbage franchise for a term of five years from and after December 12,1949 under the same terms and conditions as the present franchise and that the City Attorney be instructed to draw up the necessary res- olution to be presented at the next meeting of the Council. Mr.Allen LeFevre representing Foster & Kleiser Company now appears before the Council to request a penllit to erect a sign board on property approximate ly 700 feet north 0 f :B'irst Street. and to s ug{-,;est that the Council use a different method in granting penaits to erect outdoor advertising signs.
