Minutes 1948/06/14 ~ ~ c c - 1003 Gilroy,California June 14,1948. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor G~rge C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.R.Wentwo~h,Ray L.Stevens,mavld V.Stout,Dale D.Daniels. Absent:Councilman James B,Thomas. The Mayor now welcomes Mr.Sydne1r S.Johnson as City Att orn,ey and Mr. l Johnson respon4s. /' The Mayor states that the purpose of this meeting is to consider advert is ing for bids to improve Carme 1 Street from First Street to Fifth Street; Eigelberry Street from Seventh Street to Ninth Street and Ninth Street from Eigelberry Street to Monterey Street. Contract proposals for the irnprove:rrent of these, streets ,having been approved by the City Attorney,are now presented and portions read. Motion 'by Councilman Wentworth,seconded by Councilman Stevens and carried that the plans and specifications for the improvement z: , by armor coating, or the following streets-Car.mel Street fram First Street to Fifth Street;Eigelberry Street from Seventh Street to Ninth Street and Ninth Atreet from Eigelberry Street to Monterey Street, as prepared by the City Engineer be accepted and the City Engineer instructed to advertise for bids for this work said bids to be opened July 6,1948 at 8 o'clock P.M. The Mayor now discusses the condition of the Gymkhana grounds,that, being city property, something should be done toward painting the fences and stands to protect the lumber from the weather. It is unanimously agreed to turn this matter over to the chairman of the BUlilding and Grounds Committee for investigat ion and report to the Council as to cost,etc. The Mayor states .hat an engineer from the Dorr Engineering Company will be in Gilroy to inspect the sewage disposal plant some time toward the end of the month and urges all Councilmen to hold themselves in readiness to visit the plant wlwh the engineer when he ma~es his inspection. Councilman Stout inquires about extension of city water service out- side the City Limits to persons residing on Murray Ave. The chairman , . of the water committee outlines the proceedure and method of charge for pipe and labor. Mr. William Werner now appears before the Council 1D state that prop- perty pwners residing in the area bounded by Princevalle Street,Third Street, Fifth Street and Miller Avenue are holding a meeting Tuesday 1004 evening auly ~5th at which time they will discuss annexation of this area to the City. Mr.Werner urges the Mayor and as many members of the Counc il as possible be pr-esent a long with the City Att orney and City Engineer, to answer questions that may be presented. The Mayor now asks each member of the Counc il if he favors the annexation on the. pa.rt of the city and all Councilmen answer in the affirmative.
