Mr.Ernest Pavese now appears before the Council as spokeman for the local plumbers and asks that the Council have a special meeting to discuss with them the plumbing ordinance and plumbing license. The Mayor states that a meeting will be held as requested and 11 k,J all local plumbers will be notified of the date. A ~etition to the Common Council of the City of Gilroy to Initiate Proceedings to Annex Certain Territory as Uninhabited, signed by San Martin Sales Company,a partnership,by M.J.Filice, is presented and read and referred to the Gilroy City Planning Commission. . Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Stevens and carried that the bid of Renry Weymouth in the amount of $2,l89.04 for painting,with first grade oil paint,portions of Gilroy Gym- khana Grounds, accepted. The City Marshal now apIE ars be fore the Couna.il to recommend that a new car be purchased for the Police Department. This matter is referred to the Finance Committee for investigation and report. The matter of experimenting with a road mix type of surfacing on certain streets is discussed the City Engineers office statingthat they should get a good idea of cost on the basis of four blocks. The matter of improving of Forest Street from Martin Street north to Leavesley Road is discussed and the Clerk is instructed to write a letter to the Board of Trustees of the Gilroy Union Righ School D'strict to ascertain what progress they have made on re-routing Forest Street around the school property north of Odd Fellows Avenue. Counc11m~n Stout discusses the fee charged for Building Permits. The Clerk now reads a letter from the League of California Cities in answer to a letter written by the Clen requesting information on the procees other cities use in arriving at building premit fees. Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried follow ing bas is: that building permit fees computed on tba.tC'-:;~: $7.00 per square foot for dwellings; $5.00 per square foot for commercial buildings and $2.00 to $2.50 per square foot for garages and accessory buildings. Motion by Councilman Stevens, seconded by Councilman Stout and. carried that the Golden State F&reworks Manufacturing Company be granted a permit to put on a fireworks display Saturday night,July 17,1948 on vacant property adjoining the west city limits just south of Sixth StiTeet. The matter of experimental work~ on streets is discussed and it is ] determined that Church Street from Sixth to Seventh and Rosanna Street from Sixth to Seventh street and Forest Street from Martin Street to Odd Fellows Avenue b:ec,thti designated streets all work to be done on a day labor basis. .' . .... " The Mayor announces that he recommends/the following be named to the Gilroy City Planning Commission: Carroll Wentz to serve until Jan.l,1952, A.W.Brown to serve until Jan.15.l95l and Elmer Weymouth to serve until Jan.15.l951. Motion by Councilman Thomas,seconded by Councilman Mason and carried that Carroll Wentz be appointed to membership on the Gilroy City Planning Commission to January 1,1952;that A.W.Brown be appointed to membership on the Gilroy City Planning Commission ~ to January 15,1951 and that Elmer Weymouth be appointed to member- .....J ship on the Gilroy City Planning Commission to January 15,195l. Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Wentwo~th and carried that Harold Crow be appointed chairman 0 f the Forestry Board and Carroll Wentz and Kirby McAtee.::members of the Forestry Boord for the ensuing two years.
