A communication is read from the Gilroy City Planning mommission recommending annexation to the City of Gilroy the subdivision known as Castlewood Park Unit No.l. A report of Via ter samples ta ken by the Santa Clara Count y Real th Delli rtment July 15th is presented and read and ordered placed on file. A communication is read from the Division 0 f Righways relative to the gra nt ing 0 f franc hises to pub lic ut ili ties. This c onnnunicat- ion is ordered filed . The letter of transmittal and the auditors report far the fiscal ,....... year 1947-1948 is presented and read. 'a. A communication ~ 16ad from Logan and Frazer,city auditors, offer- ing to audit thecity's books and recards quarterly with an annual repor't to be submitted at the end of the <fiscal year 1948-1949 for the' sum of $300.00, is pr ese nt ed and read. Motion by Counc ilman Stevens ,seconded by Counci lman Stou t and carried that the report of Logan and Frazer,city auditors, for the . fisca 1 year 1947-1948 be acce pted as read and placed on file. Motion by CounCilman Stout,seconded by Coubcilman Stevens and .1<" carried that the bid of Logan and Frazer,certified public account- ants, of $300.00 to audit the city's booksof ree:ord am account ~ fer the fiscal year 1948-1949; audi ts to be made quarterly and a final report submitted at the end of the fiscal year, be accepted. Mr.Frank Thomas,district manager of the Coast Counties Gas and Electric Company, now appears before the Council and states that the company is now ready to instal new electroliers on Monterey Street as per agreement when the new franchi se was grant ed. 1014 Mouncilman Thomas states that he viewed the new type of lighting just installed at North Sacramento among with Dr.Elmer Chesbro and George M. Lawton. It is unanimously agreed to meet with the Cpast Counties Gas and Electric Company,Mondayevening,August 9th, to discuss new electro- liers. Mr.Roward Jones representing property owners residing the ~u~ies Addition now appears before the Council to complain about water .... standing the gutter at the intersection of Gurries Drive and Church ....I S~reet and an oak tree standing near the North end of Church Street and to ask the street lites be installed in the addition. The annexation of Castlewood Park Unit No.1 is discussed with reference to drainage and it is unanim~usly agreed that the matter should be checked into before any further action is taken. Councilman Wentworth is instructed to take charge of correcting the drainage complained of at Chruch Street and Gurries Drive and to invest~gate tbe tree complained of. The Matter of street lights is referred to the Lighting Committee. No objection is made. An agreement for highway maintenance for t he fiscal year 1948- 1949 is discussed ahd it is agreed to take this up on Monday,Aug- ust 9th. A canmunication is read from City Engineer W.J.Ranna stating that the Chappell Pump Company had completed their contract of installing the pump at the new well and he recommends that the pump company be paid in full except for $59.00 and $301.18 tOI be withheld until the expiration of 35 days. Councilman Mason presents figures on cost of various makes of automobiles and it unanimously agreed that fUwther discussion on this matter be laid over until Monday,August 9th. 1015 Councilmarn Mason now discusses the fire insurance for the city properties and it unanimously agreed to discuss the change in the amount mf insurance carried when it is possible to meet with a rep- resentative of the insurance carriers. The Clerk is instructed to wri te to the Division 0 f Highwyas with reference to insurance for the traffic signals. The matter of a radio for the new police cars is discussed and it is determined to take up this matter at a la ter da tee Councilman discusses the purchase of a new truck for the water deaprtment and he is instructed to prepare the necessary notice for publication calling for bids. The City Marshal now appears before the Council to discuss collect- ing Motor Transporation of 1.1erchanc1ise licenses from trucl<"$delivering it beer in the city. Due to the absence of the City Attorney/is decided to leave::thismatter over until such time as the attorney could be present and advise the Council. The Marshal also discusses the establishing of a sub-stat ion for the Sheriff's 0 ffice in Gilroy with v- reference to possible conflict with the local police officex. The Mayor states that it is his understanding that there would be no fJ!i&"'t'''A conflict as the Sheriffs office would operate only in the unincor- -- porated area. Motion by Councilman Thomas ,see onded by Counc ilman Stevens and carried that theClerk be instructed to make the necessary pub- lication calling for bids to erect a building to house the new pumpi8.t the corner of First and Carmel Streets. The City Clerk and Ex-officio Assessor now presents the figures for the 1948-1949 assessment 2011 statinB that the total assessed valuation of the unsecured roll exclusding public utilities is $3,140,260.00.
