This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by Hi s Honor lEa yor George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,
James B.Thomas,Dale D.Daniels. Absent:Councilman, David V.Stout.
The Mayor states t hat the purpose of this meeting is to discuss
the installation of new street lights for Monterey Street and calls
upon Mr. Frank Thomas and Mr.Bishop,r,p~esentnng the Coast Counties
Gas and Electric Company, to present information on a new type of
mercury-vapor lam~
Councilman Thomas states that he viewed the mercury-vapor light-
ing recently installed in North Sacramento and Councilman Daniels
chairman 0 f the Lighting Commi ttee states that he has talkd with
others who have seen the light mg and all seemd very much satisfied
with the mercury-vapor light.
Discussion as to cost and the original agreement with the Coast
Counties Gas and Electric Company is had and it unanimously agreed
that the entire matter of new street lighting for Monterey Street
be referred to the Lighting COlmnittee for investigation.
The Mayor states that he has received word that the Division of
Highways is now interested in widening Monterey Street from 60
feet to 68 feet, this to be accomplished by taking 4 ' feet of side-
walk on the east side of Monterey Street and '4
feet on west side
of Monterey street.
Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Thomas and
carried that the Mayor and the chairman of the Street Committee
be appointed to represent the city at a meeting of the State Highway
Commission,August 19thhand that they be empowered to offer the
necessary space on Monterey Street to wideIl:~.t.P:e '.street from its
present 600 feet to 68 feet by taking 4, feet off of the sidewalks

.on each side of Monterey Street.
Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Thomas and
carried that the matter of new street lighting for Monterey Street
be tabled until the widening of Monterey Street develops.
Councilman Stevens reports that the water punlp at the Sewer farm
needs repairs. It is unanimously agreed that this matter be
investdgated by Councilman Stevens.

Motion by Councilman steveLs,seconded by Councilman Wentworth and
carried that the City Clerk be instructed to make the necessary
puhli cation calling for bids to resurface', Forest Street from Martin
Street to I.O.O.F.Avenue, bids to be opened August 23,1948.
