This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C..ilias.
Presen t: Councilmen George M.Mason,J .H. Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,
James B.Thomas,David V.Stout,Dale D.Daniels.
~ The Mayor requests that the Clerk read a letter addressed to the
Mayor and Common Counoil rro- the J.H.Jamison Service, the oommun-
ioation,s1gned by Mr.Jamison, offering his servioes,for a moderate
fee, to make a through study of the polioe department organization
and make reoommendations to the Council for improvement, to set up
all neoessary tiling systems am modernize the department.

The Mayor requests Mr.Jam.ison ikt( appear before the Council and
he is questioned by members of the Council and the Mayor. JI~ "

has canpleted the installation of the system he will arrange for
a tCilllow-up for three months. Mr.Jamison states that his tee for
thissservioe-report,reoommendations and setting up the system and
the-tollow-up- is $500.00.
Motion by Counoilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Stout and
carried that the decision on the hiring of J.H.Jam1son Service be
made at the first regular meeting in October,1948.
The Clerk now presents the budget figures as prepared by the
Finance Committee and the Clerk for the fiscal year 1948-l949.
The Mayor and Council now retire from the Couacil room to witness
a demonstration of a Food Machin~ry high pressure pumping engine.
UpOB return to the Counoil room the Mayor requests an opinion
from the Fire Chief on the pieoe of equipment demonstrated.

Motion by Counoilman Thomas ,seconded by Councilman Stout and
carried that $5,300.00 be earmarked from the budget to be used to
purchase a new Food Machinery Corporation high pressure pumper for
the fire depar~ent.
The matter ot Gentry,Inc. using a portion of the garba@B dump at
the city sewer farm is discussed.

Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Stevens and carried
that the <<ity Attorney be instructed to write a letter to Gentry,Inc.
requesting them to procure another site :~fom dumping their garbage
other than the city sewer tarm.

o~ Streets tor a cut-back sprayer to be used for sealing up cracks on
hard-surfaced streets.
Motion by Councilman Stout ,seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried
that the sum of $2,250.00 be added to the $5,300.00 of earmarked funds-
$785.00 of the $2,250.00 to be used to purchase a cut-back sprayer for
use of the Street Department and the balance of the $2,250.00 or
$1,465.00 to be used for improvements at the city sewer farm.
With these additions to expenditures the final figures of the
Addenda to the 1948-1949 budget indicate a surplus anclbdingdba%ances
1hotliEi::Ge.ile~alrand Reserve Funds as of JUly 1,1948, of $40,177.00.
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Daniels and carried
that the tax rate for the fiscal 78ar July l,l948 to June 30,l949 be
$l.25 per $100.00 of assessed valuation, apportioned as follows:

The Mayor now asks for suggestions for appointments to the property
owners oommittee to study ways and means and make a report and rec-
ommendations to the Council on the financing of the city'S share of
expense of whe projected widening of Monterey Street.
The following names are presented by the Councilmen and appointed by
the Mayor-Monterey Street property owners-Robert Howson,A.L.Gurries,
Justin Byers,Fook Low,William Hall; back street property owners-
Carroll Wentz,August Piedmont,J.E.Ayer,M.Mondelli,Frank Perrelli.
The City Engineer's office report that the Division of Highways has
rejected all bids for the resurfacing of Forst Street fram ~~rt1n Street
to I.O.O.F.Avenue.
Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Daniels and carried
that the necessary advertisement be made calling for bids for the
resurfacing of Forest Street fram Martin Street to I.O.O.F.Avenue,bids
to be opened Monday,October 4,l9.48 at 8 o'clock P.M.
