Minutes 1948/10/11 1033 Gilroy, California October 11,1948. This regular adjourned meet ing of the Cormnon Counc U is called to order by Ris Ronor M~or George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,Bames B.Thomas,David V.Stout,Dale D.Daniels. Mr.Robert Mason,Santa Clara County Communications officer now appears . before the Council to discuss the status of radio station KBOB stating that the Federal Comnunications Commissions: has made an insepct ion of the station and in a report states that the station employees should be under the direct control of the city. ~~.Mason suggests that an agree- ment be made between the city am the Gilroy Telephone Company making the telephone company operatGms Auxil11ary COIDnlunications Operators and subject to the control of the city. 1034 , Sheriff Howard Hornbuckle now appears before the Council,at the v invitation 0 f the Mayor, and discusses the plans his office has for county-wide radio communication which includes a sheriff's sub-station and radio in Gilroy. The City Attorney is instructed to draw up the necessary agreement between the City and the Gilroy Telephone Cmnpany and submit it to Mr.Mason for his sug~stions. RESOLUTION NO.208 is now presented and read. VillEREAS, a writtne petition has heretofor been filed in the office of the Clerk of the City of Gilroy, under the provis ions of the "Annexation of the Uninhabited Territory Act.of 1939")Statutes of 1939,Chapter 297),asking that there be annexed to the City of Gilroy as uninhabited territory the following described tract of land contiguous to the city limits of the City of Gilroy,situated in the County of Santa Clara,State o~ California, to-wit: "Beginning at a point in the Easterly line of Miller Avenue and the Westerly line of the City 0 f Gilroy from which the Northeasterly corner of "Tract No. 506,Castlewood Park,Unit No.I",as shown on the Map recorded in Bo ok 18 at page 40 of maps ,Official Records of Santa Clara County, bears N. 89008'30~ w. 80.00 feet and rumling thence N.890 08'30" W. 230 feet to the Northwest corner of Castlewood Park; thence South- erly along t he Westerly line of Castle- wood Park to the Southerly line of Third Street;thence Easterly along the Souther- ly line of Third Street to the Westerly line of I!Iiller Avenue; thence Easterly across Llille r Avenue to the intersect ion of the Southerly line of Third Street with the Easterly line 0 f Miller AvenueJ. thence Northerly along the Easterly line of Miller Avenue to the point of beginning." Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Daniels and carrmed that a Studebaker-3/4 ton truck be purchased from Jack W.Ronald in accordance with the terms and c ondi tions as set forth in his letter dated October 9th,1948. Counc ilman Wentworth discusses a request to place a STOP sign at the intersection of Martin and Alexander Streets. This matter is placed in rhe hands of the Street Committee for investigation and report. RESOLUTION NO.209 is presented and read. Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Daniels that ,-,'"" I ~' RESOLUTION NO. 209 be adopted: RESOLUTION NO.209 -- BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Comnon Council of the City of Gilroy, That the intersection of Lewis Street and Forest Street within said City, is hereby designated as a public highway;that vehicles shall be stopped before entering Forest Street at both entrances thereto from said Lewis':; Street; that such entrace to Forest Street from Lewis Street shall be clearly marked and signposted to give notice of such fact, pursuant to the provis ions of Sect ions 466,468 and 471 of the Vehicle Code of the State of California,and/or other sections of said Vehicle Code applicable thereto. Avenue next to the Orphans Home. It is unanimousl~ agreed that the school authori ties should settle them: matter with those who are using this space fo~ parking. Councilman Stevens suggests that the old privy at the Gymkhana Grounds be filled in and the Superintendent of Sewers is instructed to do this work. The matter of leases on sewer ~arTl lands held by Leola Brownell a..'<'<t <.Y~ and Harry Rianda ~ discussed. Both leases expire October 31,1948.
