This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,Ray L.Stevens ,James B.Thomas,Dale
D.Daniels. Absent:Councilmen J.H. Wentw<Fth,David V.Stout.
The Mayor states that thepurpose 0 f this meeting is to discuss the
proposeci annexat ion of the territory lying south of Third Street,
East of Miller Ave me ,North of Fifth street and West of Princevalle
Street.
A petition of protest against the proposed annexation,signed by

fifteen property owners,is presentedand read.

The City attorney states that petition of protest must be refB~ed

1/4 of the electors residipg in the area proposed to be annexed.
I'he l\layor now calls upon anyone present favoring the proposed almex-
ation to appear before the Council. No. person present responds.
The IJayor now calls upon anyone present opposed to the propased
annexation to appear before the Council.
Mrs.J.S.Downhour now appears before the Council to oppose the
proposed annexation stating tl~t she had been recently put to con-
siderable expense in deepening a well on her property.
Mr.Roger 1,VentvlOrth now appears before the Counc il to request that
the proposed almexation be referred to the Gilroy City Planning
COLTnission for study and revision of the proposed boundaries.
Others appearing before the Council to speak against the proposed
annexation are:l1rs.Harry C.Scholten and Dr.Leon Melkonian.
Those spealdng for the proposed annexat ion areL 1/1. J. Filice, William
~erner and Justin W.Byers.
Many quest ions are asked and as\5wered by the IvIayor and the City
Attorney.the latter advising the Council and those };.lI"esent that
the heuntlartes as set forth in the proponents petition for annex-
ation could not be changed by the Council.
I,lotion by Councilman Daniels,seconc1ed by Councilman Llason and
carried that the petition against the proposed annexation bp referred
to the County Assessor to check the front footage represEll ted in
said petition and the petition of the proponents for the annexation
be referred to the County Clerk to check to ascertain if 1/4 of
the electors residing the area proposed to be annexed had signed
the pet i tion.
