This regular adjourned meeting or the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor Ge orge C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,James
B.Thomas,David V.Stout,Dale D.Daniels.
..; Also present at this meeting are City Marshal A.G.Goodrich and
J.H.Jamison of the J.H.Jamison Service.
The matter of appointment of a Captain of Police is discussed.

Motion by Counoilman Seevens,sceonded by Councilman Thomas and
carried that Harold Sturla be appointed to the office of Captain
ot Police, that his salary be $290.00 per month retroactive to
January 1,1949 and that he serve in this position at the will and
pleasure o~ the Council.
The City Attorney is instructed to prepare ami: amendment to
Ordinance No.46o to provide that Police Officers and other Police

personnel,other than the City Marshal, shall be appointed to "serve
at the will and pleasure of the Council".
The Clerk is instructed to write letters to Mr.Richard Galli and
Mr.Leslie Barker advising them that the position of Captain of Police
has been filled and inquire ~f they are interested in the position ot
Partolman at a salary ot ~~260.00 per month and a $50.00 allowance
toward the original purchase of a un&form.and if they are interested
to call upon the City Marshal for an interview.
The Clerk is instructed to write a letter to Miss.Louise Schell,
applicant for the position of Harton-Radio-Telephone operator,and
request that she call upon the City Marshal for an interview.
The matter organization of the entire oity government is now
discussed.
Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Stout and
carried that the office Chief Administrative Officer of the City
of Gilroy be established.
Motion by Councilman Wentworth,seconded by Councilman Daniels and
carried that City Clerk P.A.Cox be appointed to the office of
Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Gilroy at a salary of
$48.00 per mo~th,effective to January 1,1949~

. carried that the office of Purchasing Agent of the City of Gilroy

Motion by Councilman Thomas,seconded by Councilman Stout and
carried that Deputy City Clerk G.E.Carr be appointed to the office
of Purchasing Agent cof the City of Gilroy at a salary of $42.50 per
month,effective January 1,1949, ~~L hold office at the will and
pleasure of the Council.
Tt.;is unanimously agreed that the meeting *cheduled for Monday,
January 17th to further discuss police personnel and salaries of
ci ty employees and the financing of the widening of Idonterey Street,
be an executive session.
