Minutes 1949/01/17 1061 6 Gilroy,Ca11fornia January 17,1949. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Mi+ias. Present Counoilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas,Dale D.Daniels. Absent: Councilman David V.Stout. 1062 The Mayor states that the purpose of this meeting isto further discuss police department personnel and salaries of city employees. The Mayor now reviews applications for partolman anB states that he has another application for the office of Matron-Radio-telephone oper- ator. v The City Marshal states that Miss.Louise Schell has been interviewed and that Mr.J.H.Jamison has been contacted and arrangements made to have Miss.Schell undergo a course of instruction at the Sheriff's office and t he San Jose Police Department and that the recommends Miss.Schell for the position of Matron-Radio-telephone operator. --, J Motion by Cour;cilman Daniels, seconded by Councilman Stevens and upon the recommendation of the City Marshal carried that/Miss.Louise Schell be hired as Matron-Radio-telephone operator at a salary of $225.00 per month,effective January 24,1949, to serve at the will and pleasure of the Council. There are no other applications for patrolman and it is agreed that Constable Carl Schulz be hired as the eXtra patrolman,until such time as a regular patrolman is appointed,at a salary of $260.00 pe r month. The matter of a sales tax to finance the proposed widening of Monterey Street is now disoussed. Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried that the City Clerk arrange a meeting with Colonel Jno.H. ~-! Skeggs,District Engineer,Division of Highways, and the Mayor and members of the Council, to further the discuss the pIOposed widen- ing of Monterey Street. A comnunicat ion is read from. the local Eagles lodge request ing use of Wheeler Auditorium,January 28th, for a show, money realized from the show to go towards purchasing of uniforms and instruments for the band. Motion by Councilman Thomas,seconded by Councilman Daniels and carried that the Eagles band pe granted permission to use Wheeler Auditorium for a concert and ehow,January 28th, free of charge, the money realized from this entertainment to be used for the I . purchase of band uniforms and instruments. The matter of salaries of the severa 1 city employees is now discussed. Mot ion by Counc ilman Daniels, sec onded by Counc ilman Thomas and carried that,effective as of January 1,1949, the salaries of city employees be as follows:Louis Scolari-$225.00; Modesto J.Ramezane 1063 Fire Chief-$245.00 and as BUildine Inspector-$25.00 per month; Chas.Shields-$225.00;permonth;' Irv1ne.Oeto-$258.50 per month; Gabriel Filice-$225.00 per month; H.R.Eschenburg (water department Clerk)-$175.00 per month; Leon Thomas-$135.00 per month;Sydney S. Johnson-$125.00 per month;J.E.Pruett-$85.00 per month; Helen Fillyaw- $40.00 per month. It is unanimousl' agreed that C.J.Weppener be granted two weeks sick leave and two weeks vacation.
