Minutes 1949/01/24 1063 Gl1roy,California, danuary 24,l949. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas, Dale Da Daniels. Absent:Councilmen J.H.Wentworth,David V.Stout. This being the time specified in a legal publication in the Gilroy Evening Dispatch calling for a hearing on the proposed re-zoning of Eigelberry Street from First Street to Seventh Street, t'ooZone "Cl"- Restricted Business District- the Mayor now asks if there is any one present who opposes the proposed rezoning. 110 one appears before the Council to rpotest and/or object to the proposed rezoning. ORDINANCE NO.468 is presented and read. Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Mason that ORDINANCE NO.468 be adopted. ORDINANCE NO.468 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO.422 OF THE CITY OF GILROY, KNOWN .AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE, BY ESTABLISHING A NEW DIS'1'RICT FOR ZONING PURPOSES IN THE CITY OF GILROY TO BE KNOWN .AS "C1, RESTRICJrED BUSINESS DISTRICTS",AND PRESCRIBIID THE REGULATIONS APPLYING TO SUCH DISTRICTS. Vote on the motion to adopt BRDINANCE NO.468: AYES: Councilmen George M.Mason,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas, Dale D.Daniels. " Theapplic~t10n of Levio Q,uartiero for position of Patrolman for the Police Department is presented and read. ./ The Clerk states that the City Marshal is unable to be present but a~vised the Clerk that he recommends Levio ~uartiero for the position of Patrolman for the Police Department. 1064 j Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried that upon the recommendation of the City Marshal that Levio ~uartiero be appointed 'atro~an for the Gilroy Police Department at a starting salary of $240.00 per month,as of January 25,1949, to serve as Patrolman at the will and pleasure of the Council. The matter of the city joining the Loma Prieta Soil Conservation District is discussed and the Mayor requests that each Councilman give this matter some thought before a decision is made. RESOLUTION NO.2l4 is presented and read. '.J Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Mason that RESOLUTION NO.2l4 be adopted. RESOLUTION NO. 214 -- vnrEREAS, Carl J.Weppener long an employee of the City of Gilroy, died on January 22,1949, and, 1f/HEREAS, said Carl J. Weppener had been an employee of the City of Gilroy continuously for more than twenty years and Superinten- dent of Streets and Sewers for 1i1b~eJ.th8.n 15 years last past and during this long term,served this community honestly,ably and energetically, and, WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Gilroy deem it fitting and proper that a permanent record be made of the services rendered the City o~ Gilroyby one who has so faithfully performed his public duty, NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that in the death of said Carl J. Weppener, the City of Gilroy has lost and upright,loyal and capable public servant and highly respected citizen, and his family a devoted husband,parent and counsellor, and, BE IT FURTFillR RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution duly certi- fied as such by the City Clerk of the City o~ Gilroy be delivered to the survuvung wife and f~lily of said decedent.
