Minutes 1949/02/21 1069 Gilroy, California February 21,1949. This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,James B.Thomas,Dale D.Dahiels. Absent: Councilman David V.Stout. The Mayor announces that the purpose 0 f this meeting is to discuss a program for street improvement for the year 1949. The City Engineer is called upon by the Mayor to outline a proposed program. Streets considered-~awdy Street,between Fifth and Sixth Streets; the widening of Forest Street north of Swanston Lane; resurfacing Gurries Drive; resurfacing Seventh Street between Monterey Street and Railroad Alley and Alexander Street sout h of Old Gilroy Street. It is unan~mously agreed that the Street Committee,the City Engineer and the Chief Administrative Officer investigate the streets proposed to be improved,and others,and bring a report to the Council with their rec ommendat ions. Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman stevens and carried that the City Engineer be authorized to go to San Francisco to discuss the engineering work and how it is to be paid for, with the Division Etlgineer of .the Division ~ Highways,.,on th~ ..proposedc irdodeJ:li:il1goCllfL,Mcimte1tteyrjS$ree" and report to the Counc il. Motion by Councilman Stevens, seconded by Councilman Daniels and Oarried that Councilman David V.Stout be granted per.mission to leave the state for thirty days from February 22,1949. City Marshal A.G}Goodrich now appears before the Council to discuss f- an article about himself ahat appeared in a recent edition of the Gilroy Evening Dispatch. The City Marshal was assured that the view o~ the /) 1070 editor were his own and not those of the Council. Councilman Mason discusses,the proper~y damage for automobiles and property damage-general- now carried by the City. Motion by Councilman Stevens,seconded by Councilman Daniels and carried that Councilman Mason be granted the authority to raise the general property damge insurance from $5,000.00 to $25,000.00 and the motor damage vehicle property y from $5,000.00 to $25,000.00 and that the premium for this additional insurance be paid for two years to effect a savings of approximately 20%; all.L other insurance of the cit y to stand as it is at the present time. Councilman Mason suggests that one Council meeting each year be set aside to discuss city insurance. This suggestion is unanimously concurred in by other members present.
