Minutes 1949/09/26 1121 Gilroy, California. September 26, 1949. . This regular adjounned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by his Honor George C. Milias. Present Councilmen: J.H. Wentworth, Ray L. Stevens, J.B. Thomas, Dale D. Daniels, George M. Mason and David V. Stout. Absent Councilmen: None. All members of the Recreation Commission, J.D. Chappell, Chairman H.B. Long, Mrs. Virginia Steinmetz, Frank Leef and James Jepsen are 1122 present. ~le Mayor states that the meeting is called to discuss with the Recreation Commission the action taken by the Common Council at its last meeting in amending the Recreation Ordinance regarding the pur- chasing and the appointment of a Recreation Committee to work as a liaison Committee between the Commission and the Common Council. Mayor Milias explains the Purchasing Department of the City and explains the necessity of amending the Recreation Ordinance because of the conflict with the purchasing plan of the City. Chairman, J.D. Chappell announced that the Recreation Commission agreed that all purchasing should be done by the Purchasing Depart- ment, but felt that the Recreation Committee was to take the place of the Recreation Commission and that the Commission could not act without the permission of the Committee. The matter of disbursment of School contributions to the Recrea- tion Fund by the City was referred to the City Attorney for study and recommendation. After discussion between members of the Recreation Commission and members of the Common Council it was found that the Commission and the Common Council were in accord on the Major features of the Recreo.tion Program and could work together harmoniously in matters of recreation.
