Minutes 1949/12/05 112H' Gilroy, California December 5,1949. This regular monthly meeting 01' the Common Council is called to order by His Honr Mayor George C.Milias. Present: Counci lmen Ge orge Ll.Mason,IT.H. 'dentworth, Ray L. Stevens, James B.Thomas,David V.Stout,Dale D.Damiels. Minutes of the regular monthly meeting of November 7th and regular adjourned meetings of November lOth,14th and 21st,1949 a~e read and approved. A cormaunication is read from J.N.Hedberg relative to the siren he installed at the Bouthwest corner of Fifth and Monterey streets as a warning signal to be used by the fire department,on a trial b as is . The Clerk reports that the Division 0 f Highways representative had investigated the siren and recmmnended the installation of a gong at this intersection and the chairrrran of the Fire Committee reported that the siren had not been satisfactory due to the fact that the operating switch was so located that the fire truck driver did not haye time to throw the switch when answering an alarm and that the siren and the siren on the fire truck both operating at the same time tended to confuse traffic on Monterey street. Llotion by Councilman Thomas, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and crarried that the fire siren sent to the city on a trial basis by J.N.Hedberg be returned as the Division of Highways does not favor this type of signa 1. A cOLuilunication is read from the Gilroy Community Concert Associa- tion requesting the use of \'Vb.eeler Auditorium on January 20th,Feb- ruary 17th and IJarch 31st for concerts is presented and read~ I.:otion by Councilman Daniels, Seconded by Councilman Stout am carried that the (Elroy Communi ty Concert Association be granted use of Wheeler Auditorium on the dates requested on their cormmnication the rent to be the srune as last year,namely, ;~15.00 per night.
