This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order
by the City Clerk in the absence of His Honor Mayor George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,Ray L.Stevens,James B.
Thomas,David V.Stout,Dale D,Daniels.
Motion by Councilman Wentworth, seconded by Councilman Daniels and
carried that Councilman George M.Mason be 14ayor pro.tem.
Mayor pro-tem Mason states that the purpose of this meeting is to
discuss with the property owners residing on the west side of Forest
Street betwwen Swanston Lane and Leavesley Road the matter of widening
this portion of Forest Street from thirtysseven and one-half feet to
s i~ty feet, the property owners to donate twenty-two and onel;.ha!:r:~feet
of their property to accomplish theiproposed widening.

Five property owners residing in the area are present.
The Mayor pro-tern now calls on Councilman Wentworth, chairman 0 f the
Street Committee,to review the proposed project.
W.J.Hanna,Jr.of the City Engineer's office is now called upon by the
Mayor pro-tem to discuss the amount of additional land needed for the
propesed Widening.
Mrs.Mary Bracco stated that she did not feel as though she should
give the 22i feet requested for the Widening without compensation. Other
property owners present expressed their views some in favor of the
donation and others against.

for further discussion,one prpperty ownerG stating that it was her
belief that those interested shou~d discuss the matter further before
making a decision. Mayor pro-tem Mason advised the property owners
to advise the City Clerk when the owners were ready to discuss the
matter further and a meeting of the Council would be called.
Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Stout and carried
that W.J.Hanna,Jr. be allowed to sum of $45.00 toward expenses to attend
a three-day traffic engineering school to be held at the University of
California at Los Angeles in the latter part of January,1950.

Further discussion is now had on the proposed widening of Forest
V
Street and the possibility of re-routing the street around the Gilroy
Union High School District property to the east.
l~yor pro-tem Mason,chairman of the later Committee, now discussed
the possibility of the Council forming a policy with respect to the
extension of city water mains to new customers aoutside the city

limits of Gilroy. Several suggestionsare made but this matter .8 held
over for further discussion.
