Motion by Councilman Daniels,seconded by Councilman Wentworth and
carried that Councilman George M.Mason be Mayor Pro-tem.

adjourned meetings of April 6th and April 10th are read and approved.
The Poundmasters reports for February,March and April,1950 are reaa
and ordered placed on f'ile.
Letters from Owen Van Buskirk and Mrs.Herbert Weaville accepting
appointments to the Parks ~nd Recreation Commission and Board of
Trustees of' the Gilroy Public Library,respectively, are read and
ordered filed.
A cO~L1unication from, Logan and Frazer,city auditors, stating that
they had exmained the city's. books of record and account for the
quarter ending I'ilarC h 31,1950 and had found everything in good 0 rder,

A report of water samples taken March' 18,1950 by the Santa Clara
County Health Department is presented and read and ordered pI aced on
file.
A communication is read. from the Parent-Teachers ' Association re-
questing use of Wheeler Auditorium on June 5th for the P.T.A. District
meeting.
Motion by Counciilaan Daniels,seconded by Councilman Stout and carried
that the Parent-Teachers '.A.s$ociation be granted free use of ii,heeler
Auditorium on June 5hh,f~m 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. for the P.T.A.
District meeting.
A cormnunication is read from the Parent-Teachers Association relat-
ive to traffic protection for school children attending the Eliot
School on Old Gilroy Street.

of property at 250 S.Alexander Street owned by 'I'hoL1as Lopez,stating
thatTlIlr.1opez is now reCJ.uestil1{~ to make an installation of a bath and
hook the property to tho ci t:r senor line. The property in que stion,
I believe, could be classed as a labor camp and is not up to city
specifications ot standards. If alloried to continue as started, I am
convineed it will become,as it now is, an eyesere in the conITlunity.
However, it Vlould be I1yi recoy:rr1endation that tIr.Lopez either be alloned
to proceed under present plans ot be forced to demolish said shacks
and clear the pr operty".
Motion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilllan Stevens and carried
that Mr.Thomas Lopez,owner of the property at 250 S.Alexander Street,
be notified that the buildings on his property must comply with the
building code and health laws of the city within the next thirty days
or the buildings will be declared unfit for human habitation and he will
not be permitted to use them.
This being the time specified in a notice calling for bids for an
automobile for use of the police department two bids are presented;

oak tree on city property adjoining 625 N.Hanna Street, atgt:iIl:g',that
the tree is an asset and worth saving.
The Chief Administrative Officer is instructed to ascertaib if the
tree is located on city property or on the property at 625 N.Hanna
Street.
An application for tMansfer of an On Sale Beer license from James
F.Baker,Conner H.Morgan and Autice LIorgan,d.b.a.Pacheco Pass Cafe, 30

RESOLUTION OF TEE Cm,IJMON COUJ>TCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY PROVIDING
FOR NOTICE OF THE PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF UNINHABITED TERHITORY
DESIGNATED AS "RENZ RANCH TRACT", TO THE CI TY OF GILROY UNDER THE
"ANNEXATION OF UNINHABITED TERRITORY ACT OF 1939".
WHEREAS, a writtne petition has heretofore been filed in the office
of the Clerk 0 f the City of Gilroy under the provisions of the "Annex-
ation of Uninhabited Territory Act of 1939,"as set forth within
Sections 35300 to 35325,inclus~ve, of the Government Code of the State
of California,asking that there be annexed to the Ci ty 0 f Gilroy as
uninhabited territory the following described tract of land,contig-
uous to the City Limits of the City o~ Gilroy, situated in the County
of Santa Clara,Sta te of California, to-vvit:
COIvILIENCING at the point of intersection of the \Vest erly City
Limits of the City of Gilroy with the Northerly line of Hecker Pass
HighwaY,formerly the Bodfish :Mill Road, and running thence in a
Westerly direction along the Northerly boundary line of said Hecker
Pass Highway North 890 West 1.18 chains to a 4" x 41f whote post
marked 3.1 standing at the Southwest corner of Las Animas Ranch EDt
No.24, North 22io West 42.80 chains to its Northwest corner;thence
along the Northern line of said Tanch Lot NO.24, North 890 20' East
33.06 chains to the Northwest corner of land conveyed to A.R.Moore
by Deed dated January 4,1898 and recorded in Book 207 of Deeds,page
72,Santa Clara County Records; thence S. 210 25' East 274.60 feet to
the Northerly City Limits of the City of GilroYi thence along said
Northerly City Limits of the City of Gilroy to the most Westerly
corner thereof; and thance along the Vlesterly City Limits of the
City of Gilroy to the point of beginning.
AND, WHEREAS. it appears that said petition has>> been s :igned by
the owners of not less than one-fourth of the area of land in such
yerritory and represents not less than one-fourth of the assessed
value of such territory according to the last preceding Equalized
Assessment Roll of the County of Santa Clara~ in which such terr-
itory is situated, and that the tract therein and herein described
is contiguous with the Corporate Limits of the said City or Gilroy,
and
DEEREAS the City Planning Commission of the City of Gilroy has
investigated the said proposed annexation of the said territor,r
ani has made its report and recOIi1Ill.endations in favo r of the annex-
ation of said territory,upon certain conditions, and
\VREREAS the said "Annexation of Uninhabited Territory Act of
1939" ,above referred to, requires that upon the filing of such a
petition a Resolution shall be adopted by the Common Council giv-
ing notice of such proposed annexation, and fixing the time and
place at' hearing when and where any person owning real property
within the said territory proposed to be annexed nmy appear and
object thereto,
NOW,T:TI~REFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cor~10n Council of the
City of Gilroy hereby designates the said territory proposed to be
annexed to the Ci ty ar Gilroy as "Renz Ranch Tract:.'
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, and it is hereby ordered, that 1,Ionday,
the 22nd daydof May,1950, at the hour of 8:00 o'clock P.M. of said
day, in the Council Chambers in the City Hall,Gilroy,California,be
and is hereby fixed as the time and place when and w here and person

and having any objections to the proposed annexation,may appear

City of Gilroy for the sizth consecutive term, he havin[; again received
a very handsone complimentary vote in spite of the fact that he had no

c8.nvassing the returns of said election, bwt the said :LIayor is absent
due to arrangenents having been previously nade by members of his family,
particularly his mother, to celebrate his ___birthday anniversary (just
which one this Council has not been advised, but it just can't be more
than the 39th),and
':HEREAS this Council regrets exceedingly the absence of said George
C.Lilias at this iruportant meeting and its consequent inability to here
and now congratulate him personally for being the peoples' choice for
Mayor for so many terms, and said Council has therefcbre seriously con-
sidered the advisability of levying a fine of sui table amount against
said Mayor, and
~nEREAS, before levying said fine, this Council deerw it well to
pause and dwell upon the public career of said George C.Milias and to
remember that before he bagan to serve this comnunity as Mayor, he was
a member of the Common Counci 1 of the (,;i ty 0 f Gilroy fo I' several terms,
that during his long service as L:Iayor and Councilman, he has been diligent,
earnest and industrious in behalf of the public, and d9voted to its
cimterests even though during all this time he has .heen ;engaged in im-

reflect upon the fact that in him the citizens of the community have had
a trustworthy servant and this Council an able leader and adviser ,and

should be commended during the lifetime of him who performs it rather
than by eulogies thereafter, and that a public record should be made

officially and personally congratulate hira upon tnis____anniversary and
upon his sixth consecutive election to the office of IJayor of Gilroy, and
does further congratulate and commend him for his long,noteworthy and
unselfish service for the public good, and

that the contract for ins*alling air conditioning in the City Clerk's
office be awarded to Schieler's Appliance Service on their bid of
$163.24, said bid being the lowest and best bid.
Councilman Stout now requests permission to absent himself from the
State from MaylOth to May 20th,1950.

lIrimself from the State from !,~ay 10th to May 20th, 1950.
Councilman Stout reyorts that Dr.H.B.Long,chairman of the Parks
and Recreation Co~nission has advised him as chairman of the Rec-
reat:ion Connni:ttee. of the Council, that the commission is ready to
meet with the Council cOlli1ittee at their convenience.
