Minutes 1952/10/17 1369' Gilroy, California October 17,1952 This regular adjourned meeting of the Comuon Counoil is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Courtland M.Rush,Charles Gallo,Jack W.Ronald. Absent:Councilmen J.Hughes Kennedy,George W.1hite. The Mayor states that the purpose o~ this meeting is to consider a resolution relative to the Santa Clara County Mosquito Abatement District. RESOLUTION NO.287 is presented and read. Motion by Counoilman Pate, seconded by Councilman Gallo that RESOLUTION NO.287 be adopted. *' RESOLUTION NO.287 RESOLUTION OF mE COMrtlON COUNCIL OF mE CITY OF GILROY RELATIVE '1'0 THE FORMATION OF A MOSQ,UITO ABATEMENT DISTRICT COMPRISING SANTA CLARA COUNTY. WHEREAS,a petition has been filed with the Board of Supervisors at the County of Santa Clara,State of Ca1ifornia,under Seotion 2215.5 and other seotions of the Health and Safety Code of the State of California, for the format ion of a mosquito abatement distriot compris ing the whole of the County of Santa e1ara inoluding uninoorporated cities;and, WbEBEAS, the City of Gilroy has been asked to consent to the in- 1370 . elusion of the City of Gl1roy within the District and become a part thereor;and, WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City ar Gilroy has considered the request that it consent to become a part of the Distriot and has come to the following conclusions: (1) That the County of Santa Clara Health Department hasfacilit- ies and equipment or oan easily prooure them,necessanto initiate and oarry on a oampaign to eradicate mosquitoes from the Cpunty ot Santa Clara. (2) That the said County of Santa Clara Health Department i' tam- iliar with the mosqu1 to nus ianoe and danger in the County of Santa Clara and knows more ot the locations where mosquito abatement is required in the said oounty than outside health departments and would probably be called in in the formation of a Mosquito Abatement District to do most of the work. (3) That it would be more economical for the taxpayers of the Gilroy section and of the balance of the County of Santa Clara it the Health Department of Santa Clara County had oharge of mosquito abatement in the County. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Co~n Council of the City of Gilroy does favor placing the mosquito abatement in the County of Santa Clara in the hands of the Health Depar~ent of said County rather than forming a Mosquito Abatement District,and further favors the levying of such tax by the Board of Supervisons of Santa Clara County as will be necessary to provide the County Health Department with the necessary equipment and personnel to oarry on the work ot eliminating mosquitoes in the County. BE IT FOR'l'HER RESOLVED that the City Attorney of the City ot Gilroy appear before the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County at the time of the hearing ot the peti tion tor the forming of the said Mosquito Abatement Distriot and present a copy of this Resol- ution and imform the said Board of Supervisors of the Ganclusions of the Common Council of the City of Gilroy,and obtain suoh infor- mation as may be possible at the hearing. [~(.~.~ the Council stating that the company would do the Christmas decorating in the oity similar to prev~ous years for the sum of $1,000.00. Councilman Pate states that he had attended a meeting of the Board 01: Directors of the Chamber of Commerce am that Christmas decorat ions were mentioned but that no definite action was taken. It is unanimously agreed that the Finance Committee of the Council meet with the Board of Direotors of the Chamber of Commeroe to dis- cuss the matter of Christmas deoorations thlis year,the canmittee to report to the Council.
