Club requesting information on the fee f:)r Wheeler Auditorium for a

December 17,1953 for their annual Christmas music program.
A communication is read from Joshua 1'!alker aksing that he be granted
a franchise for taxicab service in Gilroy. This matter is refer-ed to
t~e Financ\:~ Committee for investigation.
Specifications,drawn by the City Engineer for the Pacific Telephone
and Telegraph Company,to be followed in the breaking of the pavement on
Eigelberry Street between First Street and Tenth Street and Tenth Street

Motion by Councilman Kennedy,seconded by Councilman White and carried
that the Itpacific Telephone and Telegraph Company Permit for Eigelberry
StreetH dated November lS,1953,signed by the City Engineer,setting forth
tIle specifications for the breaking of pavement, backfilling of trenches,
etc. ,be accepted with the correction in paragraph l,.first sentence to
read:"Concrete Pavement is to be saw cut to a depth of 2 inches prior to
breaking".
A communication is read from the California State Automobile Association

discussion the City Attorney is instr~cted to ~'epare an ordinance
establishil~ a 35 mile per hour speed limit on Leavesley Road between
Murray ,\'venue and I'ilonterey 3treet as recommended by the California ;;tate
Automobile Association.
A commun nication is read from the City Sngineer requesting pernlission
to file his final report on Project ~o.23,resurfacing of Rosanna and
Tenth streets.

that the City Engineer be authorized to file the final report on Project
No..23,rcsurfacing of Rosanna and Tenth streets,as requested by the City
Engineer.
A conlfllunication is read from the City Engineer requesting that pay-
ment be made to the George C.Renz Const~lction Company of $3,090.71
on.'his contract for the paving of Rosanna and Tenth streets,Project No.

23, and that George C.Renz Construction Company be paid the sum of Ii

$100.00 for extra work on this project and that Ralph Foshee be paid
the sum of $518..00 for cement work on the S~TIe project. and that
$1,121.33 be paid George C. Renz Construction Company at the expiration
of 35 days.
Motion by Councilman K ennedy,seconded by Councilman Pate and carried
that the City Engineer's reco~nendation of payment to George C.Renz
Construction Company for paving Rosanna and Tenth streets,Project no.
23, be accepted and the payment be $3,090.7l be made on the contract
and $100.00 for extra work performed and that Ralph Foshee, be paid
the sum of $518.00 for cement work in connection with this project,
and that the 10% retention on the Renz contract to correct some
failures on Rosanna street,recornrnended by the City Engineer, be

to take his 1953 vacation early in 1954.
Motiob by Councilman Pate,seconded by Councilman Kennedy wld c~rried
that City Treasurer H.R.Escllenburg be granted permission to take his
1953 vacation early in 1954.
Motion by Councilman Pate, seconded by Councilman 1Vhi te and carried
that each city employee be given a Christmas gift of ten dollars in
cash.

The Mayor no',', asks the City Engineer if he has the necessary figures
on the cost of a proposed industrial sewer for the Filice and Perrelli
Canning CO:ilpany. The City Engineer states that he has the figures and
the Iilayor announces that the Council will meet informally on Monday,
December 14,1953,with cannery officials to discuss the proposed indust-
rial sewer costs.
The I'JIayor asks for information vvith respect to insurance on pr<1vate

cars used by the Auxilliary Police. Councilman Pate reports that he
discussed this matter with Chief Ray Blackmore of the Sfu'l Jose Police
Department and t hat the City of San Jose does not provide insurance
accident
for their Auxilliary Police cars due to the very small/exl~rience
they have had.
The Chief Ad:;linistrative Officer is instructed to write a letter
to the City Marshal requesting that the Auxilliary Police not use
their private cars for their vJork only when called upon the City
~.carshal to do so and that this be CDne only in the case of ana extreme
emergency 8.J.~d that the City LCarshal be advised that he should bbtain
a car for temporary use when and if both cars now used by the depart-

Councilman Kennedy states that VII'. Paul Gallagher,attorney for Mr.
Mike Filice,owner of land adjacent to the west city limits, has
asked vv'hen he and hi s client can appear before the Council to di scuss
annexation. Councilman Kennedy is advi sed, that in viev: of the possibility
of the County not doing anything about fl])od control work for some time
to come that the Counicl could discuss the fu'1!1exation [:latter at any time.
The matter of accepting Brnadway butween Carmel Street and ~Nayland
Lane is discussed. I t is unanimously agreed not t 0 accept the stEeet

The report of the County Controller of fines collected by the
Justice Court for the month of October,1953 is presented and read
and ordered filed.
