This special meeting called by the M~or,the Councilm~n being
notified by post card more ihan twenty-four hours in advance of
the meeting, is called to order by His Honor M~or George C.Milias.
Present:Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Courtland M.Rush,J.Hughes Kennedy,
George W.Ubite,Jack W.Ronald. Absent:Councilman Charles Gallo.
The Mayor annouces that the purpose of the meeting is to view
the plans for t he wid~ning and improvement of drainage of Monterey
street and to vote on the acceptance or rejection of the plans.
Walter J.Hanna,Jr. of the City Engineer's office now presents
the plans and discusses the various parts,i.e. drainage correct-
ions, cutting back of curbs,etc.
The matter of the new street Howson Bros. are proposing to re-
quest to have opened-an extension of Church Street to Monterey
Street-is discussed the Mayor stating that in a previolls meeting

with Division of Highways officials it was agreed that the opening on
North Monterey Street half way between Casey Street and First Street,
as shown on t he map, shall be moved approximately 425 feet in a northerly
direction to provide an opening in,the c~t~r strip for. the propose. new.

Motion by Councilman Rush,seconded by Councilman Kennedy and carried
i-'~ that the right-of-way HOwson Brothers have offered,as set forth on the

.L map as presented, for t he extension of Church Street to Monterey Street,
be accepted,and,also, the right-of-w~ for the extension of Church Street
in a northerly direction from its present terminus on the south bank of
Miller Slough through the property of Howson Brothers and Theodore and
Ann Nauer to the south line of property of Filice and Perrelli Canning
Company,as shown on the map presented, be accepted.
The matter of drainage on Monterey street and the Eighth Street drain-
age plan are discussed the City Engineer's office stating that a request
had been made of the County to participate in the Eighth Street drainage
p~an to the extent of $14~OOO.OO and the Board of Supervisors had turned
the request over to the County Engineer with a request t hat he include
this amount in his budget for the fiscal year 1954-1955.

Mr.iVilliam Ventre ,representing the Ventre Tractor and Equipment Company
now appears before the Council to discuss the matter of ingress and egress
on his property on North Monterey street and asksif there is a possibility
of constructing an alley in the rear of his property. The Mayor instructs
the City Engineer to investigate the possibility of constructing such an
alley.
Motion by Councilman Pate,seconded by Councilman Kennedy and carried
that the plans for widening and drainage improvement on Monterey Street
as presented by the Division of Highw~s be accepted,providing,the break
in the center strip on North Monterey Street between First Street and
Casey Street,as shown on the plans,be moved in a northerly direction
on the street approximately 425 feet to provide an opening for the new
st~eet which will be the extension,in an easterly direction, of Church
street from its present terminus on the south bank of Miller Slough to
Monterey Street and the Mayor,City Clerk and City Engineer be authorized
to sign the plans on behalf of the City.
The Mayor announces that the vote on the foregoing motion is four
Ayes and one Noe.
The Mayor now declares this meeting adjourned.
