Present: Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Courtland M.Rush,J.Hughes Kennedy, Charles Ga11o,Jack W.Ronald. Absent:Councilman George W.White. The Mayor now~sks if the Councilmen have received copies of the minutes of the regular monthly meeting of April 5th and the called meet- ing of April 19,1954,through the mail. All Councilman answer in the affirmative. The Mayor now asks if there are any errors or corrections to be noted in the copies of the minutes of the regular adjourned meeting of April 5th and the called meeting of April 19,1954. Hearing no objections the Mayor now declares the minutes approved. A communication is read from the Board of Trustees of the Gilroy Public Library requesting a meeting with the Buildings and Grounds Committee to discuss the feasibility of finishing the basement of the library building into useable space to provide room for displays, etc. The Mayor now calls upon Mrs.Dorothy Ronald,member of the Board of Trustees of t he Gilroy Public Library, to discuss the renovation of the basement of the library building and the purposes for which the room would be used. Chairman Kennedy of the Buildings and Grounds Committee requestsa meet- ing of his committee with a committee from the Library Board to discuss the proposed renovation for Wednesday evening,May 5th,1954. A communication is read from the I.F.D.E.S. requesting permission to ho1d'its annual Holy Ghost and festival parade oD Sunday,May 23,1954. Motion by Councilman R~sh,seconded by Councilman Pate and carried that the I.F.D.E.S. be granted permission to hold its annual Holy Ghost parade on Sunday,May 23,1954,the parade to start at Forest and Old Gilroy Streets, thence west to Monterey Street, thence north to Third Street, thence west on Third ~treet to Eige1berry Street, thence north on Eige1berry Street to First Street abd thence to St.Mary t s church yard, the retult'll route of the 150[1 of the parade to be over the same streets. A communication is read from Logan and Frazer,certified public accountants, city aUditors, stating t hat they had completed the quarter- ly audit of the city books of account and record to the quarter ended March 31,1954 and had found them in good order. This communication is ordered filed. A communication is read from C.Ne1son Hackett,cousin of the late Hugh S.Hersman, thanking the Mayor and Council for a copy of the Resolution passed and adopted by the Council memoralizing the death IIIIIIl . The proposed advertisement is presented and read. Motion by Councilman Pate,seconded by Councilman Kennedy and carried that ~ka bids be advertised for in the Gilroy Dispatch for an outfall sewer from the cannery and t hat bids be opened at 8 0 'clock P.M.on Wednesday,May 19,1954 at a meeting of the Common Council in their' Council meeting roam, City Ha11,Gi1roy,California. A communication is read from W.J.Hanna,Jr. presenting three copies of ~Sairviewtt, a propGsed tio lot subdivision south of the Glenview School. ~ J Motion by Councilman G al1o,seconded by Councilman Pate and carried that the tenaative map of "Sairview" subdivision be referred to the Gilroy CityyPlanning Commission for recommendation to the Council. The Mayor announces that this is 'the time to canvass the bal~ot of the regular municipal election held on May 3,1954 and directs that the canvassing proceed. Councilmen Ronald and Gallo are appointed Clerks and the canvassing proceeds as directe-d. With the completion of the canvassing the City Attorney presents and reads RESOLUTION NO.321. BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED: That the foregoing are found as the facts as to the number of votes,exclusive of absentee votes, that candidates for the respective offices received,and that this meeting of the Common Council of the City of Gilroy adjourn to meet Monday,the 10th day of May,1954,at the hour of 1:00 o'clock p.m. fortthe purpose of canvassing the absentee votes cast at saidaection,and the adoption of a formal Resolution declaring the result of the election after the:c6ns1der~ ation and inclusion of said absentee votes,and the ordering of the City Clerk to issue certificates of election to the successful can- didates. The City Attorney now presents and reads RESOLUTION NO.322. Motion by Councilman Kennedy,seconded by Councilman Gallo that RESOLUTION NO.322 be adopted. RESOLUTION NO.122 Resolved by the CON.lli~N COUNCIL of the City of Gilroy that pursuant and subject to all of the terms,conditions and provisions of Division 5,part 1,Chapter 7, Sections 4010 to 4035 of the Calif- ornia Health and Safety Code and all amendments thereto,relating to domestic water supplies , application by this City be made to the State Board of Public Health,for a permit to use existing worksc for sppp1ying water to the inhabitants of t.he City of Gilroy and to modify and repair existing works;which said works consist of a dam and forbay on the'Uvas Creek about five {5> miles northwest of the City of Gilroy,and two wells in the City of Gilroy and pumping plants attached thereto,one of said wells being located at the Southeast corenr of Monterey Street and I.O.O.F.Avenue and the other along the south side of First Street between Princevalle and Carmel ~ J 1507 Streets;and pipe line distributing system;that the Mayor of said City of Gilroy be and is hereby authorized and directed to cause the nec- essary data to be prepared, and investigations to be made,and in the name of the City of Gilroy to sign and file such application with the said State Board of Public Health. Councilman Pate presents the Pouhdmaste~s report for the month of ~~'''>e. Apri1,1954. It is unanimously agreed thatif an owner of a dog calls the Poundmaster to pick up a dog owned by the party calling that the pdundmaster collect a fee of $1.00 for this service. The bill for the Poundrnaster for t he month of Apri~,1954 is presented and unanimously approved. Reports of city officers are presented and read. Motion by Counci1~an Rush,seconded by Councilman Kennedy that reports of city officers be accepted as read and placed on fi1e-. Motion by Councilman Pate, seconded by Councilman Rush that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the Treasurer. Motion by Councilman Kennedy,seconded by Councilman Pate and carried that this meeting adjourn to Monday,May 10,1954 at 1 o'clock P.M. to canvass the absentee ballots of the May 3rd election.
