Minutes 1956/05/01 1714 Gilroy,California May 1,1956. This special meeting of the Common Council called by His Honor Mayor George M.Mason by mailing a letter to each Councilman, the City Attorney and the Gilroy Evening Dispatch more than 24 hours in advance of the meeting is called to order by His Honor Mayor George M.Mason. Present:Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Charles Gallo,J.Hughes Kennedy, Courtland M.Rush,Kenneth L.Petersen,Segundo Sanchez. The Mayor announces that the purpose of this meeting is (1) J to hear the report of the Ordinance Committee on their meeting with the Police Department with reference to affidavits filed with the City by the attorney for the Pentecostal Church, and (2) to receive a letter of resignation. The Mayor now calls upon Councilman Pate, chairman of the Ordinance Committee for the report of his committee with ref- erence to the Police Department. Councilman Pate presents a written report from his committee; the report requesting that final action be postponed until the Council could meet as a Police Committee for further investigation ] of this matter. A communication,dated April 25,l956,signed by Filbert Lujan, presenting his resignation from the Police Department,is presented and read. The City Attorney now advises the Council on the matter of whether any compensation is due Mr.Lujan. Motion by Councilman Sanchez, Seconded by Councilman Rush and carried that the resignation of Filbert Lujan as a member of the Police Department, be accepted. Motion by Councilman Pate, seconded by Councilman Kennedy and carried that this meeting adjourn to Wednesday,May 2,1956 at 9 o'clock p.m.,Council chambers,City Hall,Gilroy,California. gt~~~ ., i .....
