Minutes 1956/05/28 I 1722 Gilroy,California May 28,1956. This regular adjourned meeting of the Cornmon Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George M.Mason. Present:Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Charles Gallo,Courtland M.Rush, Segundo Sanchez. Absent:Councilmen K.Hughes Kennedy,Kenneth L. Petersen. This being the time specified in a legal notice calling for for bids for the construction of bridge across the Llagas Creek on the City Sewer Farm property five bids are presented and read. There are two alternates in the bid:(l) T~mber and Steel bridge complete in place and (2)Reinforced concrete and steel bridge complete in place. George C.Renz Construction Company,Inc.-Alternate No.l-$6960.; Alternate No.2-$9770. Granite Construction Company-Alternate No.l-$8900.;Alternate No.2-$11,800. William Radtke & Son-Alternate No.l-$8220.;Alternate No.2- $8353. Western Builders-Alternate No.l-$8056.;Alternate No.2-$lO,627. Gordon Farotte-Alternate No.l-$5960.;Alternate No.2-$7390. The Mayor now orders the bids referred to the City Attorney and the City Engineer for checking. This being the time specified in a legal notice calling a public hearing on the matter of original zoning for the "Second Northern Addition to the City of Gilroy" and a rezoning of a portion of the Renz-Wayland Lane Tract the Mayor now asks if there is anyone present who desires to protest and/or object . to zoning the "Second Northern Addition to the City of Gilroy" in Zone "D". No person appears to protest and/or object. The Mayor now asks if there is anyone present who desires to protest and/or object to the placing in Zone "B" a pprtion of the Renz-Wayland Lane Tract. No person appears to protest and/or 1723 object to the rezoning of a portion of the Renz-Wayland Lane Tract. The City Attorney now presents and reads ORDINANCE NO.541. Motion by Councilman Sanchez, seconded by Councilman Pate that t'#',C""" ORDINANCE NO.541Abe adopted. ORDINANCE NO.541A AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO.422 OF THE CITY OF GILROY, GENERALLY KNOWN AS THE "ZONING ORDINANCE",BY CHANGING THE BOUNDARY LINES OF DISTRICTS "A", "B", AND "D". - Vote on AYES: NOES: ABSENT: the motion to adopt ORDINANCE NO.541: Councilmen Pate,Gallo,Rush,Sanchez. Councilmen None Councilmen Kennedy,Petersen. The City Attorney now presents and reads a letter addressed to Miller & Lux,Inc. offering to lease the property known as the "Las Animas Hospital Reservation Site" for a park and playgrounds for the City and County taxes. Councilman Petersen now is present and occupies his place at the Council table. Motion by Councilman Sanchez, seconded by Councilman Gallo and carried that the Mayor be authorized to sign the letter addressed l4 to Miller & Lux, Inc.offering to lease the "Las Animas Hospital Reservation Site" for a park and playgrounds for the City and County taxes. Councilman Rush,chairman of the Finance Committee,now ~eports on his committees investigation of the possibility of purchasing the Bank of America property located at 116 North Monterey Street for use as a parking lot or the future extension of Fifth Street. After discussion it is agreed that an offer should be made to the Bank of America for the property located at 116 North Monterey Stteet. Motion by Councilman Pate, seconded by Councilman Petersen and carried that the Finance Committee be authorized to offer the r~ , , , u Bank of America the sum of $17,500.00 for their property located at 116 North Monterey Street. . x Councilman Pate discusses the matter of washing down Monterey Street for the V.F.W.parade using county equipment and man. It is unanimously agreed that Councilman Pate proceed in this matter. The City Attorney and City Engineer now report that they have examined the bids for the cobstruction of a bridge across the Llagas Creek at the City Sewer Farm and have found that the bid 1724 of Gordon Farotte meets the requirements in the specifications and that his bid is the low bid. Motion by Councilman Rush,seconded by Councilman Pate and carried that the bid of Gordon Farotte of $7390.00 for the construction of a reinforced concrete and steel bridge across the Llagas Creek at the City Sewer Farm be accepted as the lowest and best bid and that the contract for the construction of the bridge be awarded to Gordon Farotte,when his bid bond is corrected. It is unanimously agreed that th~ 1955-56 donation to the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce of $2,000. be made out of General Fund "B". Motion by Councilman Pate, seconded by Councilman Petersen and carried that the sum of $12,000.00 be transferred from the Reserve Fund to General Fund "A". The Clerk is instructed to call by telephone Mr.Thomas Garrick of the Continental Service Company and advise him that the Council has voted to offer,the sum of $17,500.00 for the Bank of America property located at 116 North Monterey Street and that a letter be sent to Mr.Garrick confirming the telephone conversation. The City Marshal now appears before the Council to request the probationary appointment of Garry C.Narvaez as a Patrolman for a period of six months. It is unanimously agreed that the City Marshal hire Garry C.Narvaez as a Partolman for a probationary period of six months. Motion by Councilman Pate, seconded by Councilman Rush and carried that this meeting adjourn. ~~~ .
