This special meeting of the Common Council called by mailing
post card notices to members of the Council and the newspapers
more than twenty-four hours in advance of the meeting is called
to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias at 1 o'clock p.m.
Present:Councilmen CarlW.Pate,Sig Sanctiez,Kenneth:L.F'etersen,
Courtland M.'Rush, Everett C . Wentworth . Absent: Coun:ailman Char:J-es
Gallo.
Also present:Mr.Robert K.Byers,president of the Gilroy Library
Board and Mr.Chester Root of Higgins and Root,architects.
The Mayor states that the purpose of this meeting is to disQUSS
the proposed improvements at the Library building.
Councilman Petersen, chairman of the Buildings and Grounds
Committee reports that his committe has met with the library _
trustees and the architects to discuss the proposed improvements
and that the cost for the improvements as now presented exceed
the amount budgeted for the work.
. Mr. Root discusses the heating plant in the building and rec-
ommends a new plant stating that increased costs and his rec-
ommendation for a new heating plant would bring the total cost-
according to his estimate-to $11,000.
The matter of the budget allowance for this work is discussed-
the amount budgeted in the 1956-57 budget being $7500.00
Motion by Councilman Petersen, seconded by Councilman Pate and
carried that advertisement be made for bids for the improvement
of the Gilroy Library building,as presented by the architect, and
bids be opened at 8 o'clock p.m.on Monday,November 19,1956 in
the Council chambers, City Hall,Gilroy,California.
Motion by Councilman Sanchez, seconded by Councilman Wentworth
and carried that this meeting adjourn.
