Present:Councilmen Sig Sanchez, Charles Gallo. Absent:Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Kenneth L.Petersen,Courtland M.Rush,Everett C.Wentworth. Motion by Councilman Gallo,seconded by Councilman Sanchez that due to lack of quorum that this meeting adjourn to Tuesday,February 2h, 1957 at 8 o'clock p.m.,Council chambers,City Hall,Gilroy,California. e.(t.C~ City ClerK Gilroy,California February 2(,,1957 This regular adtiourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His 'ranor Nlayar George C .l\'Iilias. Present:Councilmen Sig Sanchez,Charles Gallo,Kenneth L.Petersen, Courtland M.Rush. Absent:Cauncilmen Carl W.Pate Everett C.Wentworth. , Also present are John Frasetti,Stewart Fletcher,Ellis Bogle and James Ebaugh all members of the Board of Trustees of the Gilrov ~igh school District and Donald Kreps,principal of the high school. 1811 The Mayor opens the discussion on the matter of an agreement between the city and the high school district on the oneration~etc.of the proposed swimming pool to be constructed by the city on pronerty of of the Gilroy High school District. The City Attorney is requested by the Mayor to offer his suggestions on any changes he believes should be made in the agreement as presented. Parts of the agreement are discussed and the Councilmen and the school trustees join in the discussion of changes to be made in the agreement to clarify the meanins. Motion by Councilman Sanchez, seconded by Councilman Petersen and carried that said agreement be approved as now presented with the changes indicated thereon,paragraph 8 to be revised as follows: "District and City shall each appoint three persons as an dmspection committee which committee shall,at the close of each school year and at the beginning of each school year (as said term is defined hereinabove)inspect said swimming pool and facilities used in connection with the swimming pool to determine the need for any repair or replacement to said swimmin~ pool or facilities which,in the opinion of said insnection committee, were occasioned by vandal- ism and/or malic~ous destruction;each party shall promptly repair and pay for all such damage occuring during the time the pool is being used by such party or is under the jurisdiction of such party.lI The high school trustees indicate that they will call a special meeting for Friday,March 1,1957,after the County Counsel has advised them on the revised agreement, to pass upon the agreement and advise the Council of their action in order that the Council can proceed to secure the services of an architect. Mr.John Frasetti,member of the high schoool board of trustees, discusses the city's requirements for the substitute street from I.O.O.F.Avenue to Leavesley Road and a p;eneral discussion follows on the ri~ht 01 way requir~d by the city over the proposed new route of the street east of the present high school property. Building Inspector Byron Brown,in the absence of Councilman Pate, chairman of the Street Committee,reports on the investigation made of the proposed new route of the street by Councilman Pate,Dr.H.B. Long,Superintendent of Schools and himself;that a 00 foot right of way with a 40 foot roadbed had been agreed upon along with two culverts to be constructed;that the substitute street should meet Murray Avenue on the north side of Leavesley Road. The City Attorney presents and discusses the propo$ed 5 year lease to Stokely-Van Camp,Inc.on a portion of the city's sewer farm property. Motion by Councilman Rush,seconded by Councilman Petersen and carried that a 5 year lease be granted to Stokely-VanCamp,Inc.on that certain 3 acres of land located in the northeasterly part of that portion of the tract of land known as the "Sewer Farm",lying west of the Llagas Creek, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign the lease on behalf of the City. Motion by Councilman Petersen, seconded by Councilman Sanchez and carried that the Gilroy Auxilliary Police be granted permission to change the date for their dance at Wheeler Auditorium from May 18th to May 11th under the same conditions as previously granted. Councilman Sanchez discusses the request of a Spanish Society located at San Leandro to stage a bloodless bullfight at Wheeler Field and the Clerk is instructed to advise the secretary of the society that the chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee will be pleased to meet with teem on Saturday,March 2,1957 at 2 o'clock p.m. at 490 N.Monterey Street, to discuss the matter further.
