Minutes 1957/07/15 1 ! 1847 Gilroy, California July 15, 1957 This regular adjourned meeting of the COIlunon Council is called to order by His Honor Iciayor George C. Hilias. Present: Councilmen Carl '.[. Pate, Courtland Rush, Everett v\JentHorth, Sig Sanchez and Charles Gallo. Absent: Councilman Kenneth Petersen. A letter froTe the Lions Club requesting use of the Gymkhana Grounds on Septercber 16th for a circus sponsored by them is read. Councilman Kenneth Petersen novI takes his seat at the co-uncil table. Motion by Councilman Petersen, second by Councibnan Gallo and carried that the use of the Gymkhana Grounds be granted to the Lions Club on Sept- ember 16, 1957, Hith the provisions that the City be paid for cleaning up the grounds after the circus, that the electricity used be paid for by the Club and that a satisfactory certificate of liability insurance be furnished to the City of Gilroy. A card of thanks from III's. Virginia Cox is read and ordered filed. A letter from Hayor of the City of HaYliIard, requesting the ~)assing of a resolution supporting the City of Ha;;!1:Jard's efforts in urging the build- ing of a stadiwn in that City for the IlevI York Giants of the National Base- ball League and for other purposes, is read. No action is taken. A letter from the Gilroy Junior Chamber of Conmerce thanking the Common Council for its support of the Hiss Gilroy Contest is read and ordered filed. Eotion by Councilman Pate, second by Councilman Hush and carried that the proposal of Logan and Frazer to audit the books and accounts of the City of Gilroy for the fiscal year 1957-195:); for the sum of ,,,,hOC.OO be accepted. A resolution fron': the Planning Commission recommending that a use permit be granted to Horace VJillard to construct a building for use as a radio station is read. Ivlotion by Councilman Hush, second by Councilman Pate and carried that the recorr,mendation of the Plalming Commission on the annexation of certain property west of and adjacent to Hiller Avenue and designated as the Fourth ';Jestern Addition to the City of Gilroy be accepted and that the annexation be denied. .,. 1848 A transfer of an on sale liquor license to Hary Grace and Vincent Villa- france is read. No objection is rr~de. Reports of \-rater samples taken from the City 'dater supply are presented. All samples are satisfactory. Councilman Sanchez reports that the plans and specifications for the swirruning pool \fere delayed and that they should arrive by Hednesday, July 17th. The Hayor asks if there is an;ything further on the George 1,Jhite case. He directs the City Attorney to be prenared to follow the necessary legal procedure if his building is not n~ved within the sixty day period. Byron BroMl, Superintendent of Public Horks, l)resents a request from the Poundro.aster for a small ditch at the ga.rbage dump in which to bury dead dogs. The nmtter is placed in the hands of the Sewer Corrcr~ttee with ~ower to act. Council:'nan Petersen suggests that steps be taken to rilake the necessary i:nprovements to the old BanL of America Property to provide a pad:ing lot as planned. The matter is placed in the hands of the Buildings and Grounds Com- mittee to find the cost of the improvernents. Councilman Pate suggests that the City participate in the County-wide highvray survey. The Cit;;r Clerk states that he has been requested by HI'S. Lee Berta, to issue a City of Gilroy Franchise Tax Exemption Certificate for transportation tickets for lIThe Senioritas".
