This regular adjourned monthly meeting of the Common Council
is called to order by His Honor Sig Sanchez. .
Present: Councilmen Carl ,~. Pate, Everett C. Wentworth,
Charles Gallo, Wilford E. Jordan, and Kenneth 1. Petersen.
Absent: Councilman Courtland M. Rush.
The Mayor now asks that bids for equipment maintenance be
read. The bids are onened and read as follows: G. N. Broder-
sen and Son - '~6.00 p~r hr. for labor and lSi discount on parts;

Ventre Tractor .and Equipment Company - )5.00 per hr. for labor
and all parts which are inter-changeable with International
Harvester parts carry a 25~ discount, all bearings, roller or
ball carry a 40% discount, all parts purchased from other manu-
facturers for use on city equipment will be bill~d at their
regular selling price; Frank's Motor Company - :p5.00 per hr.
for labor, 20% discount on parts, and free brake adjustment
on police cars; Gilroy Garage and Machine Shop - )3.75 per hr.
for labor with 10% discount on all parts:Uolloway Garage -
)4.00 per hr. for labor and 10% discount on all parts: Byers
Motor Company - )4.50 per hr. for labor and cost.plus 101 on

all parts; Pacheco Pass Garage - ~4.50 per hr. for labor and

per hr. for labor and 25~ discount on all parts. Purchasing
Agent Reinsch is instructed to analize the above bids and re-
port the best bid to the Council at the next meeting.
The Mayor now asks that bids for the removal of build-
ings at 787 N. Monterey Street be read. Director of Public
Works Kludt reports that he has not received any bids for this
project. Motion by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Pet-
ersen and carried that Director of Public Works Kludt be inst-
ructed to have the building at 787 N. Monterey Street removed
in a transaction most favorable to the City, and that the build-
ings be sold for. the sum of c~l.OO in order to relieve the City
of any liability, as advised by the City Attorney.
A letter is read from the Girls' League of Gilroy Union
High School requesting use of ~~TIeeler Auditorium on April 17,
1959 for a variety show and the preceeding Tuesday and Thurs-
day for rehearsals~ Motion by Councilman Petersen second by
Councilman Wentworth and carried that the Girls' League of Gil-
roy Union High $chool be ,granted permission for use of the
Wneeler Auditorium free of charge on the dates requested.
Resolution No. 499 is presented by the City Attorney.
Motion by Councilman Wentworth second by Councilman Pate that
Resolution No. 499 be adopted.

Chief Administrative Officer Carr reports that the agree-
ment with Midge Chiesa for moving curbs, gutters, and side-
walks on Welburn Avenue at Wayland Lane has been chanqed with
Mr. Chiesa's approval from a five year option to a te~ year
option. Motion by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Jordan
and carried that the proper city official be authorized to
sign the agreement between the City of Gilroy and Mide;e Chiesa
endorsing the change of five years to ten years concerning the
time option for moving curbs, gutters, and sidewalks on Wel-
burn Avenue at Wayland Lane.
Resolution No. 261 of the City of Morgan :Iill is pre-
sented and read by the City Clerk ,which approves the valley
route for the proposed free'day. This resolution is ordered
filed.
The City Clerk reads a notice of a hearing on April 1,
1959 at 2:00 p.m. before the County Planning Commission on the
rezoning of property from South City Limits to Luchessa Lane
between the Southern Pacific Right of 'day and r'-1onterey Highway.
The Mayor requests that a representative from the City be pre-
sent at this hearing.
A request is read from the Police Officers for allowance
of 10i per mile for use of private cars for City business. Dis-

Administrative Officer Carr to investigate the milea~e allow-
ance for use of private automobiles in other cities.
Purchasing Agent Reinsch requests approval of the Council
to purchase cast iron pipe, valves, and hydrants in the amount
of ~3078.35. 1e explains that there is a possibility of a raise
in price and that these materials can be Durchased now and Daid
for" in the next budget period. I,Totion by' Councilman Petersen
second by Councilman Jordan and carried that Purchasins Arrent
Reinsch be ~iven ~uthority to purchase cast iron pipe, valves,
and hydrants for R307S.35, to be paid after July 1st, 1959.
Chief Administrative Officer Carr nresents and reads his
report on a proposed annexation program.' Discussion is had on
the ma tter. Director of Public '!Jorks Kludt is instructed to
arrange a joint meeting of the Planning Commission and the
Council to discuss the annexation program. 1,10tion by Council-
man Jordan second by Councilman Petersen and carried that Chief
Administrative Officer Carr be given the authority to proceed
with the annexation program, to hire a local person who will
contact various property owners for proposed annexation into the
City, and to assemble the necessary information to be presented
to the Council.

the capacity of the City's sewer system.
Reports of water samples taken by the Santa Clara County
Health Department on February 5th and 26th are satisfactory and
are ordered filed.
Councilman Jordan requests a report on the progress
on the extension of the line for draining the reservoir.

. Chief Administrative Officer Carr recommends that ~ax
Kludt be allowed to attend the institute for Public Works Off-

Director of Public Works Kludt be allowed to attend the Insti-
tute on April 16th and 17th.
W. J. Hanna Sr. requests that Max Kludt be given membership
in the P"blic~'vorks Association. J'1ax Kludt reports that at the

~ The Mayor reports that there will be an Alameda County
Tlayor'.s Conference on T1arch 20th in Berkeley on the anal~fsis of
ITGolden Gate AuthoritylT.
The Mayor also report.s that there will be a League dinner
meeting on March 19th in Santa Clara on the Golden Gate Authority.
At this time James Peck a.sks permission of the Council to
take ooving pictures of the members present at the meeting.
