The City Attorney presents and reads a resolution acceptin~ the improvements in Eschenburg Park Unit No.1. Discussion is had on additional electroliers for the subdivision. Director of Public Works Kludt is instructed by the Mayor to check the improve- ments to see if they are in order before the resolution is adonted. Director of Public Works Kludt requests permission to ad- vertise for bids for an addition to the building at the corpora- tion yard. Motion by Councilman Petersen second by Councilman Pate and carried that Director of Public Works Kludt be authori- zed to advertise for bids for an addition to the buildin~ at the corporation yard. A letter is read from Fire Chief Ramazane recommendin~ that the salary of Vernon Naughton be advanced to,~341.00 per month, the next step in the salary schedule. Motion by Councilman Rush second bv Councilman T}ent1tlorth and carried that Vernon Naw,;hton be advan~ed to )341.00 per month and that he be allowed th~ ~75.00 uniform allO':vance. A letter is read from Marshal Sturla recommendin~ the reap- pointment of Raymond Fortado as Special Police Officer. Motion by Councilman Rush second by Councilman Petersen and carried that Ravmond Fortado be reaDnointed Snecial Police Officer for one ye~r. City Clerk Carr'~equests ~hat Marshal 3turla have Raymond Fortado complete an application and loyalty oath to be placed on file. Reports of the Ruildin~ Insnector, Police Department, and Poundmaster are read. At this time a member of the audience, Frank Mulqueeney, at 510 El Toro Jay complains that the Poundmaster has neglected to take care of the dogs in his neighborhood and that he has com- nlAined about this situation five times. No action is taken. , - The City Clerk continues to read the reports of the Ci ty Officers. Motion by Councilman Rush second by Councilman 'iventworth anc1 carried that reports be accepted as read. Three water samples taken by the Santa Clara County Health Denartment on April Ihth are read and are satisfactory. T'1ese reports are ordered filed. . I./Iotion by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Petersen and carried that bills as presented be allowed and warrants drawn on the Trea:3urer. Councilman ~entworth reports that the Public Health and Safety Committee recently met with the Southern Pacific Railroad Company to discuss the Company's request to increase" the speed of trains throu~h Gilroy. lIe states that a lIgentlemen's agreement?! was suggested whereby the Company would agree that no locomotive n LJ ( i W 19'76 would pass any railroad crossin~ within the City limits at a speed in excess of t\~enty-five miles per hour, but that after the loco- motive had passed the last crossing within the city limits on the north or south the speed could be accelerated without limitation. Motion by Counoilman ~entworth and second by Councilman Petersen and carried that a letter be written to the Southern Pacific Rail- road Company notifyin~ them that t~e Council has accepted the terms of the Tla;entlemen' s aq;reement" recently discussed at the Committee meeting. Councilman Wentworth reDorts that ~r. Miller from the South- ern Pacific Railroad Company ~tated that he will discuss with the Council the possible availability of Southern Pacific. property for off-street parking. . . Councilman Petersen reouests that a traffic count be made on Ninth Street. It is decided that the survey be made sometime in Au~ust when the beet and tomato season berrins. Richard ~rem, from the audience, asks ~he Council their rea- sons for striD annexation. Discussion is had on the matter. At this" time Frank Mulqueeney wants to know the Council's reason for the appointment of Jale Connell to take charge of the snnexatiofi program. Discussion is had on the matter. The City Attorney reports that the resolutions accompanying the proposed subdivision ordinance are in order. Councilman Jordan instructs Chief Administrative Officer Carr to notify Dale Connell that the Council would like a mon- thly report on the pro~ress of the snnexation prosram on the third Monday of each month. City Engineer ~. J. Hanna Jr. reports that the City should ask the state for traffic sia;nals at 'Ielburn Avenue an.i TTonterey Street. The Council agree and instruct ~JJ. ,T. Hanna Jr. to make the r€lquest. Director of Public Works Kludt is instr~cted to investigate the property belonging to Mr. Ross Sanchez to find out if his building is in back of the property line far enough to further , widen the street. Councilman Jordan asks if anything Gan be done at this time on the extension of Church 3treet to the ',Jelburn Avenue. This matter is decided to be taken into consideration at a later J3.t1C.
