This adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order
by his Honor Sig Sanchez.
Present; Councilmen Carl W. Pate, Courtland M. Rush, Everett
C. Wentworth, and Wilford E. Jordan.
Absent: Councilmen Kenneth L. Petersen and Charles Gallo.
A letter is read from the Red Cross and Community Welfare re-
questing use of the office vacated by the Judicial Court. Discus-
sion is had on the matter. Motion by Councilman Jordan second by
Councilman Wentworth and carried that the Red Cross and Community
jJelfare's request be granted to use the office vacated by the Judi-
cial Court.
A letter from the Planning Commission is read approvin~ the
final map of Eschenburg Park, Unit No.3 and recommending that the
County be asked to establish plan lines for future extension of
Wayland Lane. After discussion is had on the first item, motion
by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Rush and carried that the
final map of Eschenburg Park, Unit No. 3 be approved. Discussion
is had on the second item. Motion by Councilman Rush second by
Councilman Pate and carried that the Planning Commission's recom-
mendation to request the County to establish plan lines for future
extension of Wayland Lane be granted.
Administrative Assistant Reinsch reports on the .Ol~ and .051
vending machine license fees survey requested by the Council at
the last regular Council meeting. Councilmen Pate and Wentworth
are in favor of leaving our section of the license ordinance govern-
ing vending machines to remain as it is. Discussion is had on the
matter. Motion by Councilman Rush second by Councilman Pate and
carried that Mr. R. Rex Thomas' previous request to change the li-
cense fees affecting .Ol~ and .05~ vending machines be denied.
Director of Public vvorks Kludt reports on a traffic count of
vehicles crossing the Southern Pacific Company's tracks on Ninth
Street. It is reported that from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. there
were 1,481 vehicles crossing this street and 19 trains passing
over the tracks at this crossing. The Mayor suggests that this
report be referred to the Public Utilities Commission for study.
Discussion is had on the matter.
Director of Public Works Kludt is instructed to submit the
traffic count report to the Public Utilities Commission requesting
that a signal be installed at the 9th Street railroad crossing.
The City Attorney presents and reads Resolution No. 532. Mo-
tion by Councilman Jordan ~econd by Councilman We~tworth that Re-
solution No. 532 be adopted.

AND THANKING THE SPECIAL CITIZENS CO~~lITTEE APPOINTED TO ASSIST
THE COr~10N COUNCIL IN FRAMING A FREE-HOLDERS CHARTER FOR THE CITY
OF GILROY.

Councilman Jordan asks Chief Administrative Officer Carr if
he will have booklets of~the charter printed. Mr. Carr states
that he will have charter booklets printed.
Councilman Wentworth reports on the storm drain problems aris-
ing from the west side of town.
. Mr. Philip Velasco comes before the Council requesting the
installation of storm drain facilities for his property and neigh-
boring property owners.
The Mayor explains to Mr. Velasco that the City is attemptin~
to negotiate with the County for the installation of the Princevalle
Street Storm Drain.
Councilman Petersen arrive~ and takes his seat at the Council
table.
Councilman Pate reports on the Trafficway Committee meeting in
San Jose which he and Mr. Reinsch attended. Mayor Sanchez states
that he is in favor of the proposed bond issue which Councilman
Pate reported on, only in the event that districts will be formed.
Mayor Sanchez presents and reads a letter from the County
Council requesting the City to endorse a pro~lamation on alcoholism.
The Mayor requests the Council's permission to sign the proclama-
tion. Motion by Councilman Wentworth second by Councilman Peter-
sen and carried that the Mayor be authorized to sign the alcoholism
proclamation.
Chief Administrative Officer Carr requests permission to pay
employees for emergency overtime during the recent flood. f"lotion
by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Jordan&carried that Chief
Administrative Officer Carr be instructed to pay emergency workers
for overtime during the last flood.
Chief Administrative Officer Carr requests all Councilmen to
contact him if they are planning to attend the League of California
Cities' Convention in San Francisco on October 18th through October
21, 1959.
Director of Public Works Kludt reports that the Gentry sewer
meter has been installed.
~1ayor Sanchez reports that the City must acquire an encroach-
ment permit from the Division of Highways before the Gilroy Food
Products Company will be able to install a sewer line connected
to the outfall sewer line.
Councilman Petersen reports that the Kiwanis Club toured the
Filice and Perrelli Canning Company this evening.
Motion by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Wentworth and
carried that this meeting be adjourned to Monday, October 5, 1959,
at 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Wheeler Auditorium, Gilroy,
California.
