Minutes 1961/08/01 214B Gilroy, California Augus t I, 1961 This special meeting of the City Council is called to order by His Honor Sig Sanchez. Present: Council Members: Norman B. Goodrich, Wilford E. Jordan, Kenneth L. Petersen, Charles F. Quartiroli, Everett C. Wentworth, and Sig Sanchez. Absent: Council Member: George T. Duffin. The Mayor states that the purpose of this meeting is to inform the Coun- cil what he has learned from the Santa Clara Water Commission ~eeting and wisheE instructions from the Council on what position to take at the next Commission meeting as City of Gilroy representative. The Mayor explains the water importation proposed projects. Discussion I s ha d . Discussion Is had on the proposed 25C water Importation tax. Motion by Councilman Goodrich second by Councilman Jordan and carried that the City of Gilroy is opposed to the proposed 25c water importation tax, particularly if water is Imported through the South Bay Aqueduct because the Gilroy area will not benefit from this project without excessive costs. Discussion is had on the proposed Pacheco Pass project. Councilman Goodrich requests permission to leave this Council meeting. The Mayor excuses Councilman Goodrich. All Councilmen present favor. interim importation of water via Pacheco Pass rather than by the South Bay Aqueduct because it presents greater possibi- lity of benefitting a greater county area and could satisfy possible south county and City of Gilroy requirements until the Pacheco Pass Project Is com- pleted by the Bureau of Reclamation. Counci Iman Wentworth requests permission to leave this Council meeting. The Mayor excuses Councilman Wentworth. Motion by Councilman Quarttroll second by. Counci lman Petersen and carried that the Gilroy City Council will support the proposed Pacheco Pass Project and that they believe that the Board of Supervisors is the proper agency; to bar- gain for the Importation of water because they represent the entire county, however, it is believed that the Board has not given suffl~ieRt study to; interim Importation via Pacheco Pass and consequently the Council suppo~t the Pacheco Pass Plan as proposed by the Santa Clara County Water Conservation District.
