The Mayor called the Meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.
The City Clerk reported that the Agenda had been posted on
October 3, 1989 at 11:02 a.m. Councilmember Gage absent.
Present: Councilmembers: Leonard A. Hale, Paul V. Kloecker,
Larry Mussallem, Daniel D. palmerlee, Pete Valdez, Jr. and
Roberta H. Hughan; Absent: Councilmember: Donald F. Gage.
Discussion was had on sprinkler requirement in residential
hillside development. City Administrator Baksa presented
alternatives and/or options requiring sprinklers in residential
hillside development, further explained by Public Safety Director
Gillespie.
(Councilman Gage entered at 7:44 p.m. and took his seat at the
Council table.)
Discussion was had by Council on the matter. The Mayor
asked if there was anyone in the audience wishing to speak on the
matter. There was no one in the audience wishing to speak.
Further discussion was had by Council.
Motion was made by Councilman Mussallem seconded by
Councilman Palmerlee that the reading of Resolution No. 89-52 be
waived and that it be adopted Requiring Sprinklers in Residential
Hillside Development.
RESOLUTION NO. 89 - 52
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ADOPTING THE
UNIFORM FIRE, BUILDING, PLUMBING, MECHANICAL, HOUSING AND
ABATEMENT CODES, 1985 EDITIONS WITH MODIFICATIONS, (REQUIRING
SPRINKLERS IN RESIDENTIAL HILLSIDE DEVELOPMENT).
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of October, 1989, by the
following vote:

David Sanchez, Developer/Partner of Country Estates
Venture, addressed the Council in regard to building permits for
their two proposed model homes.
Council authorized the Developer of Country Estates Venture
to obtain permits for the two model homes and provide the design
for the sprinkler requirement for the two model homes when
possible.

City Administrator Baksa requested Council clarification of
a previous action regarding the Joint Powers Sewer Agreement with
the City of Morgan Hill. Council confirmed the City Administra-
tor's understanding of negotiating certain provisions of the
Contract only.
The Fire Prevention Ceremonies at Nob Hill scheduled for
October 14, 1989 at 12:00 noon was noted requesting Council
participation.
At 8:42 p.m. the Mayor adjourned the meeting.
