The Mayor led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag at 7:04
p.m.

Agenda
The City Clerk reported that the Agenda had been posted on
January 4, 1989 at 12:28 p.m.
Roll Call
Present: Councilmembers: Donald F. Gage, Leonard A. Hale,
Paul V. Kloecker, Larry Mussallem, Sara C. Nelson, Pete Valdez,
Jr. and Roberta H. Hughan.
Sister City
Mr. Ted Uchida, representing the Sister City of Takko-Machi,
Japan, presented the Mayor with a $630.00 check for the Earthquake
Relief Fund.
Recycling
Councilman Kloecker presented the logo selected for the
Curbside Collection and Recycling Project and noted additional
information proposed for handbills concerning the Program.
Motion was made by Councilman Gage seconded by Councilwoman
Nelson and carried that the logo and related materials presented
for the Curbside Collection and Recycling Project be approved.
Open Space
The Mayor stated that the Special Meeting was called in
order to consider the City of Gilroy be included in the Open Space
Authority for Santa Clara County's eastern and southern regions to
be voted upon at the November 1990 election.
Supervisor Susanne Wilson addressed the Council explaining
the proposed Open Space Authority.
Mr. Miguel Paredes addressed the Council in opposition to
the Open Space Authority proposal.
Mr. Fred Angelino, 2430 Dunlap Avenue, Gilroy, addressed the
Council in opposition to the Open Space Authority proposal.
Ms. Mary Escobar addressed the Council in opposition to the
Open Space Authority proposal.
Discussion was had by Council on the matter.
Motion was made by Councilman Kloecker seconded by Council-
man Hale and carried that the City of Gilroy not be included on
the ballot proposal regarding the Open Space Authority in the
November 1990 election. Councilmembers: Gage, Mussallem and
Nelson voted "no" on the motion.
Motion was made by Councilman Mussallem seconded by
Councilwoman Nelson and carried that the City of Gilroy's name not
be used in any of the campaign literature regarding the Open Space
Authority proposal. Councilmembers: Kloecker and Hughan voted
"no" on the motion.

Adjournment At 8:09 p.m., the Mayor adjoourned the meeting to Tuesday, January 16
1990 regular Couqcil Meeting (1-15-90 Legal Holiday) .
