The Mayor presented the Volunteers of the Month of August, 2004 award to the Theater Parent Volunteer Work Group. Proclamation: Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week - October 4-9,2004. The Mayor noted the proclamation, which was previously mailed to the recipient. Employee Award The Mayor presented the Employee Award for the Month of September, 2004 to Cydney Casper, Planner II, Community Development Department. Team A ward The Mayor presented the Team of the Month Award to Fire Engineer Colette Harmon, Firefighter/ Paramedics Shawn Peyghambary, and Scott MacDonald, Fire Department. Letter from Jay Baksa to Internal Revenue Service regarding Proposed Rulemaking on Tax on Communication Services. Letter from Wendie Rooney to Carolyn Gonot, Valley Transportation Authority, requesting that the VTA Board of Directors re-consider the priority placement of the "US 101 Widening between Cochrane Road and Monterey Highway" project in the VTP 2030 Highway Program. Minutes of the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Board meeting of July 27,2004. Minutes of the Library Commission meeting of August 11,2004. Minutes of the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting of August 17,2004. Minutes of the South County Regional Wastewater Authority meeting of September 14, 2004. The City Administrator noted that the agenda for Friday's mini-retreat is long, and requested to start at 11:00 a.m. Consensus of the Council members was to start the retreat at 11:30 a.m. He distributed information on the impact fees for the retreat. He questioned for the CDBG grants as to whether the Council wanted to continue to approve $60,000 for Public Service Agency contributions, and they agreed to that figure. Councilman Velasco thanked the Mayor and the City Administrator for attending the Gang Task Force and Youth Center ten year anniversary opening celebration. He noted the Mayor was also at the Safe Night Celebration the next night. Councilman Gartman requested an update at the retreat on the bike park. Councilman Dillon stated that he had attended Assemblymember Corbett's meeting on the Library grant. He complimented Bill Headley for the excellent presentation. The Mayor noted that we need citizens help in sending letters in support of the grant. 8300 Councilman Morales stated that on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., he would be attending the Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in San Jose, and would then come to the retreat. The Mayor questioned whether Councilman Morales would like to continue to be on the Calpine grant committee, and he stated that he did. He noted that the October 18, 2004 Council meeting may be late, and asked Council members to look at the Planning Commission tape and do their homework and be prepared ahead of time.
