RESOLUTION NO, 78 - 4
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GILROY HONORING MR. RICHARD E.
BRABANT; CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROLMAN FROM 1948-197/.
WHEREAS; the Community has determined to honor RICHARD E.
BRABANT for his many contributions; and
WHEREAS; Mr. Brabant faithfully and energetically served the
State as a Highway Patrolman for the past twenty-nine (29) years, four (4)
months and fifteen (15) days; first entering the California Academy on
August 16, 1948, serving as State Traffic Officer in Kern County on October
21, 1948 and beginning his career in this County December 27, 1948, offi-
cially retiring December 30, 1977 from the Hollister-Gilroy squad of the
California Highway Patrol; and
WHEREAS; he did during that tenure undertake and participate in
many acts above and beyond that required of an officer, specifically but
not limited to his courageous actions on January 31, 1967 whereby he saved
the lives of two young boys about to drown in the pajaro River. He recei-
ved an award for valor for these actions on May 16, 1967, however actions
such as these should not be forgotten since the same very well depicts the
high caliber of an officer Mr. Brabant represents; and
WHEREAS; in 1973 Mr. Brabant was selected as "Officer of the
Year" by the V.F.W. Post 40 and 8 of Hollister, the first such an award to
be presented.
NOW; THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED; the Gilroy City Council hereby
takes this opportunity along with all other members of the community to ex-
tend its sincere appreciation to RICHARD E. BRABANT for his loyal service
to his fellow citizens, his community, and our American Way of life. May
he enjoy many more successful years of retirement in all of his future en-
deavors.
