Dear Mr. Baksa:
We recently discussed a variety of flood control related items with you, Dick Cox, Norm
Allen, Faith Stoddard and myself present.
As you requested, we have looked into a number of items as a result of that discussion.
The items are as follows:
1) What data can the City of Gilroy receive from Water District precipitation
streamflow and reservoir water elevation gages?
Answer: All of it, but, there is wide variation in cost and equipment
maintenance obligations. Joan Maher's memo (attached), spells out the
options available with the recommendation that a purchase of the modem
and a silent 700 printer for a total cost of $800 makes the most sense.
I heartily agree. This has the advantage of low initial cost and no equipment
maintenance obligation. In essence you would have everything that we have
available to us in our data bank.
2) Will the stream gaging station on Bodfish and Little Arthur Creeks be
upgraded to radio reporting capabilities? When?
Answer: Yes, within three years.
3) Will Uvas and Chesbro Reservoir water elevations gages be upgraded to radio
reporting capabilities? When?
Answer: Yes, this year.
4) What is the total flow from Bodfish and Little Arthur Creeks? In other
words how much of the flow past, say, the Thomas Road Bridge on the Uvas
could be expected to come from these two creeks for 25, 50 and 100-year
events?
Answer: Between 40 to 47%.

5) What happens to the phone line access to the stream or water elevation
gages when they are upgraded to the radio reporting capability? Is it
automatically disconnected?
Answer It depends - we consider the radio reporting method to be much
more reliable and we generally remove the phone line access, however, both
systems can be left in place if so desired. -
We also discussed at this meeting, and as requested in your letter of March 25th, the
possibility of the Water District furnishing a staff member to sit in your Emergency
Operations Center (EOC) when it was in operation.
Our policy, and lack of staffing, has generally precluded us from furnishing individual
staff members to other organizations Emergency Operations Centers.
We will make every effort to keep you fully informed of flood condition related
matters. We also would expect that the development of your flood warning system
coupled with one of the new data acquisition systems available to you from our data
network should provide adequate information.
I will be happy to work with you and your staff this summer in order to get the data
acquisition system operational.

totaling $100.00 ($25.00 for each application).
Tne proposed maintenance measures consist or erosion repairs on Guadalupe
Creek, selective woody growth removal on Pajaro River near Highway 101
and low flow channel establishment on Llagas Creek between Bloomfield Road
and Highway 152. Tne fourth application is for an extension of the Fish
and Game permit (notification #1060-85) to conplete selective \\oody growth
removal on Llagas Creek dO\>'Jlstream or Bloomfield Road.
