AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GILROY AMENDING CITY CODE SECTION 2.13(a)
REGARDING CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETINGS
WHEREAS, the California Constitution, article XI section 7, confers on the City of
Gilroy ( "City ") the power to make and enforce within its limits all local, police, sanitary and
other ordinances and regulations not in conflict with general laws; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend the City Code regarding the scheduling of
meetings; and
WHEREAS, this Ordinance is exempt from environmental review pursuant to Section
15061(b)(3) of the State Guidelines implementing the California Environmental Quality Act of
1970, as amended.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES
HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I
Chapter 2, Article II, Section 2.13(a) of the Gilroy City Code is hereby repealed in its
entirety and replaced with a new section 2.13(a) to read as follows:
"(a) Time. Regular meetings of the city council shall be held on the first and
third Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. Whenever the day fixed for any
regular meeting of the council falls upon a day designated by law as a legal
or national holiday, such meeting shall be held at the same hour on the next
Monday. If said Monday is also a legal or national holiday, the council
meeting shall be held on the next weekday not a holiday, following said
Monday.
Notwithstanding the above, at least one regular council meeting shall be held
in July. The date of the first regular meeting shall be held on the first day of
July not a holiday and excluding Friday, Saturday or Sunday."

SECTION II
If any section, subsection, subdivision, sentence, clause, or phrase of this Ordinance is for
any reason held to be unconstitutional or otherwise void or invalid by any court of competent
jurisdiction, the validity of the remaining portion of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby.
SECTION III
Pursuant to section 608 of the Charter of the City of Gilroy, this Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect thirty (30) days from and after the date of its adoption.
