Minutes 2014/09/22City of Gilroy City Council Meeting Minutes September 22, 2014 I. OPENING A. Call to Order Mayor Gage called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was led by Council Member Aulman. The invocation was given by Ruth Brenton of the Bahai Faith Community. City Clerk Shawna Freels announced that the agenda had been posted on September 17, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. Roll Call Present: Council Member Peter Arellano M.D.; Council Member Terri Aulman; Council Member Dion Bracco; Council Member Peter Leroe- Munoz; Council Member Cat Tucker; Mayor Pro Tempore Perry Woodward; Mayor Don Gage B. Orders of the Day There were no agenda changes. C. Introductions There were no employee introductions. II. CEREMONIAL ITEMS A. Proclamations, Awards and Presentations Mayor Gage presented a proclamation in Celebration of U.S. Constitution Week. Mayor Gage presented a proclamation recognizing September 23, 2014 as Older Adult Falls Prevention Awareness Day. I. INTERVIEWS A. Interviews for 6 Open Seats on the Gilroy Youth Commission Public comment was opened. Sally Armendariz stated that not all school groups had been notified of the open recruitment, suggesting that the youth commission be representative of all of the schools. Public comment was then closed. Mayor Gage stated that the recruitment efforts would continue with special emphasis on the local schools and a second round of interviews would take place on October 20, 2014. The City Council interviewed 16 candidates. III. PRESENTATIONS TO COUNCIL City Council Meeting Minutes 9/22/2014 2 A. PUBLIC COMMENT BY MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA, BUT WITHIN THE SUBJECT MATTER JURISDICTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL Alyssa Lehr was called to speak sharing her concerns about the homeless near her business and a recent stabbing in front of her business. She then spoke on the hostile environment in the community and need to address the issue of homelessness. B. Historic Heritage Committee Annual Presentation to the City Council Chairperson Robinson presented the report. V. FUTURE COUNCIL INITIATED AGENDA ITEMS There were none. IV. REPORTS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS Council Member Tucker explained that the Habitat Agency had met and had a new Director further explaining that the Board had been going over routine budgetary items. MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Gage reported that the City Attorney subcommittee would be meeting with the recruitment firm and had several candidates. He then explained that the URM Task Force would be meeting the follow day and had success with several buildings. He then announced the Open Government Commission recruitment. V.
