RESOLUTION NO. 2015-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GILROY ACCEPTING A $1,500,000 CALIFORNIA
GANG REDUCTION, INTERVENTION AND
PREVENTION (CaIGRIP) GRANT FROM THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA, BOARD OF STATE AND COMMUNITY
CORRECTIONS
WHEREAS, the California Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention (CaIGRIP)
Program is a three -year grant program, based on a calendar year cycle, commencing in January
2015 and completes on December 31, 2017; and provides grants to cities that use a local
collaborative effort to reduce gang activity through the use of evidence -based prevention,
intervention and suppression activities; and
WHEREAS, the CaIGRIP Grant Program is subject to annual allocations through the
State budget process. Funding for second and third years of the grant, at $500,000 per year are
contingent on availability of State funds. The City of Gilroy will be required to complete a non-
competitive reapplication process at the beginning of the second and third years, and funding
will be further dependent on City of Gilroy's compliance with the grant award agreement.; and
WHEREAS, the Board of State and Community Corrections, hereafter referred to as
"BSCC" has conditionally awarded the City of Gilroy a three -year grant at $500,000 per year
under the CaIGRIP program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy serves as the lead agency and will serve as the
implementing agency to administer the grant, coordinate all agencies and community based
organizations (CBOs) participating in this project and services, called "South County One
Neighborhood Empowered (ONE) "; and
WHEREAS, while using a Continuum of Care model, The ONE project aims to prevent
gang involvement in known hot spot neighborhoods and schools (primary prevention service
component), will intervene early with at -risk and higher -risk youth (secondary early intervention
services), will intensively intervene with gang - impacted youth (tertiary targeted intervention
services), and will reduce gang activity and climate with chronic offenders (intensive
intervention and suppression); and

WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has the responsibility of overseeing the $1.00 to $1.00 of
required match, which will be supported by each of the stakeholders participating within the
grant, via an in -kind match (services supporting the grant) and/or hard match (dollars coming in
to the support the grant).
NOW, THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
HEREBY RESOLVES to accept a $1,500,000 grant from The State of California, BSCC,
contingent on availability of funds and a satisfactory reapplication and City of Gilroy's
compliance with mandatory reporting and grant award agreement.
