Resolution 2015-04RESOLUTION NO. 2015-04 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY IN SUPPORT OF THE SALE OF THE DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY HEALTH CARE SYSTEM TO PRIME HEALTHCARE SERVICES WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council is deeply concerned about the provision of quality hospital care in Gilroy and South Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, the Daughters of Charity Health System through St. Louise Regional Hospital has provided decades of quality healthcare to Gilroy and South County; and WHEREAS, the Daughters of Charity Health System is near bankruptcy and in danger of closing its doors if the sale of the healthcare system to Prime Healthcare Services is not approved; and WHEREAS, the health and wellbeing of Gilroy residents and all persons residing and working in the South Santa Clara County region depend on access to and care of a locally operated hospital; and WHEREAS, without a locally operated hospital, the health risks to Gilroyans and other South County residents will be in peril, especially in urgent situations requiring immediate, sophisticated hospital care; and WHEREAS, the paramount concern of every elected official must be the health, safety and wellbeing of the public including Gilroy and South County residents; and WHEREAS, the sale of the Daughters of Charity Health System to Prime Healthcare Services will preserve and protect the operation of Gilroy's St. Louise Regional Hospital; and WHEREAS, without the sale of the Daughters of Charity Heath System to Prime Healthcare Services, the Daughters of Charity will continue to face a $10 million a month deficit for which bankruptcy and hospital closure will be the only option. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Gilroy supports the sale of the Daughters of Charity Health System, including the sale of St. Louise Regional Hospital, to Prime Healthcare Services, a for profit entity, as the best option to continue the legacy of the Daughters of Charity in providing healthcare services to Gilroyans and South County residents. 19 *11111)Il1111111117 a►11111jwllj&twiZ! 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Gilroy calls upon and urges Attorney General Kamala Harris to approve the sale of the Daughters of Charity Healthcare System, including St. Louise Regional Medical Center, to Prime Healthcare Services. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Gilroy strongly encourages Prime Healthcare Services to maintain community services benefits and a 24 -hour emergency room at St. Louise Regional Hospital.
