A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GILROY IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE "A"
ON THE NOVEMBER 8, 2016 BALLOT FOR SANTA
CLARA COUNTY AFFORDABLE HOUSING BONDS
WHEREAS, Santa Clara County has the nation's fourth largest homeless
population with almost 5,000 unsheltered individuals; and
WHEREAS, the rising costs of homeownership and increasing costs of rental
units in the County have caused numerous families to struggle to maintain a sustainable
standard of living and in the most difficult situations have led to homelessness; and
WHEREAS, it has been estimated that over 67,000 housing units are needed in
the County to provide affordable shelter to households with low or very low income
levels; and
WHEREAS, many moderate income workers with jobs in this area must live in
other regions because they cannot afford housing, contributing to serious traffic
congestion; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Santa Clara County Housing Bond will generate $700
million for new extremely Low Income Housing, including supportive housing for the
homeless, plus $100 million for very Low Income Housing, plus up to $150 million for
Moderate Income Housing, and, of this amount, up to $50 million for first -time
homebuyers; and
WHEREAS, these bond proceeds will generate significant benefits for those who
live, work, or operate businesses in the City of Gilroy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Gilroy does hereby endorse the Santa Clara County Housing Bond Measure, Measure
"A" on the November 8, 2016 ballot.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Gilroy at a regular
meeting duly held on the 3`d day of October, 2016 by the following roll call vote:
