A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO REQUEST THAT THE SANTA CLARA
VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (VTA)
REDIRECT MEASURE B OBLIGATED FUNDS FROM THE
BUENA VISTA INTERCHANGE TO THE LOTH
STREET/SR152 INTERCHANGE FOR PRE -DESIGN
IMPROVEMENTS
WHEREAS, on November 8, 2016, a 30-year half -cent transportation sales tax
measure, referred to as 2016 Measure B, was approved by Santa Clara County voters; and,
WHEREAS, one of the relevant Measure B program areas for Gilroy is the
Highway Interchanges Program; and,
WHEREAS, the Measure B Highway Interchanges Program category
includes three projects in the Gilroy area: US 101/SR 152-10th Street Ramp and
Intersection Improvements, US 101/Buena Vista Avenue Interchange, and US
l Ol/SR 25-1 Oth Street Interchange Improvements; and,
WHEREAS, the VTA has allocated $1,000,000 for the US 101/Buena
Vista Interchange project activities for future reimbursement of costs associated
with any design and pre -design activities; and,
WHEREAS, given the urban growth boundary measure (Measure H) that
passed in Gilroy in November 2016, the US 101/Buena Vista Interchange will not
be as effective as previously anticipated; and,
WHEREAS, subsequently, staff determined that more funds should be
directed to the US 101/SR 152-1Oth Street Ramp and Intersection Improvements
Project due to traffic congestion, economic development and traffic impact fee
(TIF) funds considerations.
RESOLUTION NO.2020-50
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Interim City
Administrator shall request the VTA to redirect the currently allocated $1,000,000
funding from the US101/Buena Vista Interchange to the US101/SR152-loth Street
Ramp and Interchange Improvement Project for design and pre -design activities.
