A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
APPROVING THE DESIGNATION OF CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY 152 IN
GILROY FROM MONTEREY ROAD TO SANTA TERESA BOULEVARD
(1ST STREET) AS VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy ("City") is a charter city and municipal corporation duly
organized and existing pursuant to and under the provisions of the laws of the State of California
and,
WHEREAS, the City Council from time to time may determine that naming certain
physical features of the City of Gilroy after individuals, events, or businesses will provide a
source of pride and community recognition; and
WHEREAS, California Highway 152 from Monterey Road to Santa Teresa Boulevard is
locally known and named "1" Street" and,
WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate to recognize the services and sacrifices of our
citizens who have served in the Armed Forces;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Gilroy
hereby makes the following determinations:
The portion of California Highway 152 from Monterey Road to Santa Teresa
Boulevard ("1st Street) shall be designated as "Veterans Memorial Highway".
2. The Public Works Department is hereby directed, in accordance with the
California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to install such signs
acknowledging the designation.
3. It is appropriate and fitting to allow the designation to demonstrate the City
Council's support for the Armed Forces.
4. The City Council accepts the message and the placement of such signs as
government speech.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of October, 2020 by the CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GILROY by the following roll call vote:

MARQUES, TOVAR, TUCKER and VELASCO
