Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Mayor Marie Blankley. 1. Pledge of Allegiance Council Member Bracco led the pledge of allegiance. 2. Invocation None. 3. Employee Introductions None. IL CEREMONIAL ITEMS A. Proclamations, Awards, and Presentations 1. Historic Heritage Committee Annual Presentation to Council Dave Matuzsak presented the report. III. PRESENTATIONS TO THE COUNCIL Public Member Loren Ellis spoke on the recent event sponsored by Gilroy Downtown Business Association (GDBA) revitalization efforts to bring locals and non-locals to celebrate the community and showcase Gourmet Alley, "Urban Eats into the Streets". Proposed that these types of events continue in Gilroy and to consider more strategic partnership with other organizations to allow the community and businesses in Gilroy the opportunity to grow- Public Member Freda Kogan - Proposed to have safe parking at closed elementary schools for those currently unhoused residents to allow children to play on the lawn and safe sleeping. Mayor Blankley mentioned that the City of Gilroy does not have jurisdiction to school district properties and suggested Freda to connect with the School Board. Public Member Bob Weaver- Proposed that events like the Gourmet Alley project continue in the revitalization and economic development of downtown Gilroy. IV. REPORTS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS Council Member Bracco - No report. Council Member Armendariz - No report. City Council Meeting Minutes 07/1/2021 Z Council Member Marques - The Gilroy Gardens Birthday Celebration was a successful event and sold out. Gourmet Alley was also another successful event and mentioned that one of the vendors signed a lease with an building in downtown Gilroy. GDBA had a mixer last night and the City of Gilroy won an award. Council Member Hilton -Announced that he will be introducing a City Code, Chapter 30 Performance Labors at the August 2nd meeting. Council Member Tovar- No report. Council Member Leroe-Munoz - ABAG met last Friday and celebrated their 60th anniversary and discussed regional issues including housing, roads, and homelessness. A budget was approved for ABAG; it was a balanced budget but was reduced from 60 million to 40 million due to wide variety of factors. Also mentioned that he will not be available for the next scheduled August 2nd meeting. Mayor Blankley - The Gilroy Youth Task Force organization will be having more youth programs in the near future. V. FUTURE COUNCIL INITIATED AGENDA ITEMS None. VI.
