SECRETARY'S REPORT The Youth Commission meeting packet and agenda was posted online and at the City Hall kiosk on March 11, 2022 at 5:58 p.m. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner I. Hwang motioned to approve the minutes of the February 14, 2022 regular meeting as written. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Kamrah. The motion carried with a 9-0-2 vote (Absent: Commissioner Suresh and Commissioner Kong). V. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner L. Hwang motioned to approve the agenda on March 14, 2022. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Francis. The motion carried with a 9-0-2 vote (Absent: Commissioner Suresh and Commissioner Kong). VI. INTRODUCTIONS Staff Gonzalez introduced staff Bautista to the Youth Commission. Staff Bautista previously served as the Youth Commission advisor for the City of Gilroy. The Gilroy Youth Commission welcomed staff Bautista to the team. VII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA No public comments at this time. VIII. NEW BUSINESS A. SCYTF RJ Youth Diversion Program Mark Segovia, Program Coordinator from the South County Youth Task Force (SCYTF) Restorative Justice Youth Diversion Program, presented to the Gilroy Youth Commission about the new program. The SCYTF RJ diversion program is designed for south county youth as a restorative program that provides an alternative to youth who receive lower citations. Community members are invited to be a part of the restorative justice circles in the program. The youth commission was invited to a community restorative justice training on March 26, 2022 from 8am-4:30pm where youth can participate and receive community service hours. B. Youth Hackathon Commissioner I. Hwang and students of the Gilroy Hacks club presented to the Gilroy Youth Commission their proposal for a youth hack-a-thon event. Gilroy Hacks has students from local Gilroy high schools coming together to plan an opportunity for middle to high school aged youth over a 3 day weekend. Gilroy Hacks is currently in their middle of their planning and are seeking further student support in advertisement, planning, sponsoring, and judging. Gilroy Hacks does not currently have a date or venue for their community event, but originally hoped to be in the spring. Gilroy Hacks student group invited the Gilroy Youth Commission to support the event in any way they can. The commissioners discussed their current term timeline, student obligations, and ideas. The commissioners discussed how they would be able to support in publicizing and sharing the Gilroy Hacks club event. IX. OLD BUSINESS A. Pampered Princess 2022 Planning 5.A Packet Pg. 6 Minutes Acceptance: Minutes of Mar 14, 2022 6:00 PM (APPROVAL OF MINUTES) Page 3 of 4 Staff Bautista discussed his previous experience in organizing and planning the Pampered Princess Party Event. The previous Commissions took at least three meetings to strategies together. The Commission agreed to moved the Pampered Princess Party to next term. Preparation for this event will take place at the next meeting. Also, the Commission voted to participate in the Kids Discovery Art/Day of the Child event held at San Ysidro Park on Sunday, May 1, 2022. The emphasis will be on games (Jenga and Corn hole), face painting, and arts and crafts including princess crowns. Commissioner Winston motioned to approve move the Pampered Princess Party to next term and participate in the Kids Discovery Art/Day of the Child event. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Francis. The motion carried with a 7-1-2 vote (Absent: Commissioner Suresh and Commissioner Kong). The following Commissioners will be in charge of each station: Arts & Crafts: Commissioners Alexis, Lavender, Reet, and Meyhar - Table covers (6) - Center Pieces - Need: Crowns, wands, color sheets, certificates, crayons. Face Painting: Commissioners Lavender, Meyhar - Stick to five to six designs. - Purchase paint Games: Commissioner Isaac, Aiden, Jacob, and Zeke. - Corn hole - Jenga Publicity: Everyone - Flyers, emails, word of mouth Miscellaneous Items: - Color coordinated? - Balloons? - Commissioners and volunteers arrive at 10:00 a.m. 5.A Packet Pg. 7 Minutes Acceptance: Minutes of Mar 14, 2022 6:00 PM (APPROVAL OF MINUTES) Page 4 of 4 B. Youth Commission Apparel The Gilroy Youth Commission requested expenditures from previous orders on Youth Commission t-shirts and 1/4 quarter zip sweatshirt's. The Commission is interested in purchasing apparel to represent and promote the Commission. The Gilroy Youth Commission agreed to purchase 13 -1/4 zip-up dark grey sweatshirt's. In addition, the Commission approved to purchase 13 army green t-shirts. The total amount equaled $675.00. Staff Bautista will be ordered these request from OneLifePrint Apparel in Gilroy. X. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING The Gilroy Youth Commission recommended the following items to be listed on the next agenda: 1. Staff Yack Attack comment. 2. Participation in the South County Restorative Justice Diversion program. 3. Update with Youth Hackathon event. 4. Planning of the Pampered Princess Party for next term. 5. Preparation of Kids Discovery Art/Day of the Child event. XI. STAFF COMMENTS Staff Bautista thanked the Commission for sharing ideas and feedback. Staff Bautista reminded the Commission to stay on track with agenda topics. In addition, staff Gonzalez praised the Commissioners for doing a great job in communicating and encouraged them to continue to provide feedback. XII. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Padda motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 p.m. Commissioner Suresh seconded the motion. Motion passed 9-0-2 (Absent: Commissioner Suresh and Commissioner Kong).
