SECRETARY'S REPORT Agenda was posted on September 9, 2022. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. June 8, 2022 – Motion was passed by Commissioner Robinson to approve the minutes. Commissioner Kim seconded. Motion passed 3 -0-0. B. APPROVAL OF AGENDA - Motion was passed by Commissioner Robinson to approve the minutes. Commissioner Kim seconded. Motion passed 3-0-0. V. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS - none VI. INTRODUCTIONS – Steven Fitzgerald, Jennifer Weeks’ replacement, attended the meeting. VII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA - none VIII. NEW BUSINESS A. Mayor Marie Blankley's Annual Report to the Library Commission – Mayor Blankley is midway through her tour of attending a meeting of each of the nine city commissions. She thanked the commissioners for their time and willingness to serve. City Administrator Jimmy Forbis was also present and mentioned that the Library has access to $5 million in library bond funds to make upgrades to the building. The commission, he explained, can play an influential role in recommending to Council how that money is spent making improvements to the library building. Page 2 of 2 IX. LIBRARY REPORTS A. County Library Report for July - September 2022 (report attached) Steven provided a summary of the reports included in the meeting packet. He touched upon the following: Distinguished Author Lecture series; the upcoming Dolores Huerta visit to Gilroy; National Library Card sign-up month; Bookdrop pilot program at Los Altos and Cupertino; and a push to promote voting through the National Voting Registration Drive. B. Gilroy Library Report (report attached) Gilroy Community Librarian Cassandra Wong provided a summary of the reports included in the meeting packet. Among the topics, Cassandra mentioned the upcoming Dolores Huerta talk in November; 10-year anniversary of the new Gilroy Library building; new preschool program; the importance of the Friends of the Library; summary of the summer programs at the library—50 children programs, 4,000 participants, 9,000 meals served; and much more. X. COMMISSION COMMENTS – Sumana spoke about becoming a member of the Friends of the Gilroy Library. XI. STAFF COMMENTS – Henig reminded commissioners about the upcoming Library Commission presentation to City Council on November 7. He also asked if the library counts the bookmobile transactions toward its branch data. Wong explained they do not. XII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS - none XIII.
