MINUTES OF THE REGULAR
YOUTH COMMISION MEETING
6:00 P.M.
Monday, December 10, 2012
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:06 p.m. by Chair Triolo.
INTRODUCTIONS
Diane Carini, a community member and youth advocate, was introduced by Recreation
Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki.
ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT
All commissioners were present.
Others present: Recreation Specialist Julian Mireles and Diane Carini.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Cabatingan motioned to approve the minutes and Commissioner Medina
seconded that motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Commissioner Kang motioned to approve the agenda of December 10, 2012 with the stated
change of order. Commissioner Baxter seconded the motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Commissioner Filice reported on the Council Meeting and Commissioner Kang was excused
from the Gilroy Gang Task Force Meeting report.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Update on New GYC Logo and Shirts
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Bielecki informed the Youth Commission that the order
was placed for the Gilroy Youth Commission shirts and sweatshirts.
B. Discussion of Events/Activities for the Year, Cancellation of Retreat and Discussion
of Individual Commissioner Interests and Priorities.
Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Bielecki mentioned the cancellation of the Youth
Commission Retreat and suggested better communication strategies to the Youth
Commission. Ms. Bielecki went on to describe future events which the Commission
could participate in. Ms. Bielecki opened the discussion and possible ideas for future
events were discussed. A date for a work meeting was established to continue this topic.
Motion was made for Youth Commission work meeting on Monday, December 21,
2012 at 3:00 p.m. by Vice Chair Cabatingan. The motion was seconded by
Commissioner Baxter.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
C. Continued Discussion on Fundraising Efforts
Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Bielecki presented the official donation letter which will
be used by the Youth Commissioners to raise funds for the Senior Ball. Ms. Bielecki
opened this for further discussion and Vice Chair Cabatingan introduced a plan for
organizing the funds raised by the donation letters. Ms. Bielecki also informed the Youth
Commission about asking for a grant from the Gilroy Rotary. Ms. Bielecki concluded the
discussion by giving possible ideas on where to fundraise.
NEW BUSINESS
A. “Teen Social Center” Presentation by Diane Carini, Community Member
Diane Carini presented a potential business plan for a youth center to the Youth
Commission to get feedback and incorporate the responses given into her business plan.
Ideas about location, membership, age group, and a layout for the youth center were
discussed. A survey regarding the ideas mentioned for the youth center was given to the
Youth Commissioners at the conclusion of the presentation.
B. Discussion of Theme for Senior Ball on Saturday, April 6, 2013
Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki opened the discussion of a theme for
the 2013 Senior Ball. Possible ideas discussed were Fire and Ice, a Masquerade,
Roaring 20’s, and Casino Royale. Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Bielecki and the
Youth Commissioners agreed to finalize a theme for the Senior Ball at the next
meeting.

Vote and finalize theme for Senior Ball.
STAFF COMMENTS
Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Bielecki took a moment to discuss Breakfast with Santa and the
YAC Social.
ADJOURNMENT
Youth Commission Chair Triolo adjourned the meeting at 7:24 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Youth Commission will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at
6:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.
