MINUTES OF THE REGULAR
YOUTH COMMISION MEETING
6:00 P.M.
Monday, April 8, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:08 p.m. by Commissioner Dorn.
INTRODUCTIONS
None.
ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT
All commissioners were present except Commissioner Cabatingan, Commissioner Filice and
Commissioner Triolo. All were excused.
Others present: Recreation Specialist Julian Mireles.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Baxter motioned to approve the minutes of March 11, 2013 and
Commissioner Navarro seconded the motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Commissioner Kang motioned to approve the agenda of April 8, 2013 and Commissioner
Miner seconded the motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.

OLD BUSINESS
A. Recap of Senior Ball held on Saturday, April 6, 2013
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki opened the discussion by praising the
success of the event. The discussion continued with notes on planning and making
improvements for next year. Ms. Bielecki thanked the Youth Commission and all the
other volunteers for their help in making the event a success. Ms. Bielecki also
mentioned that 171 tickets were sold and the raffle made a profit of $410. The discussion
was concluded with the mention of fundraising for the Senior Ball. Each Commissioner
was tasked with taking on the responsibility of fundraising and obtaining raffle prizes for
next year. Possible ways to improve the display of donations was also mentioned.
B. Continued Discussion & Planning for “Battle of the Arts” Event on May 18, 2013.
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki continued the discussion by encouraging
all of the commissioners to step up and take a lead for this event. Commissioner Baxter
mentioned a work meeting to discuss the important details of the event. Ideas of
promoting the event to potential participants, judges, and audience members were also
discussed. Confirmed details for the event were discussed as well. The discussion was
concluded with a motion for a work meeting.
Motion was made by Commissioner Medina to have a Youth Commission work
meeting on Monday, April 15, 2013, 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. The motion was
seconded by Commissioner Miner.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
C. Update on Projects and Events (Youth Center Garden, Presentation to Council)
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki continued the discussion by mentioning
how Commissioner Cabatingan and she were continuing their efforts to implement a
Youth Center garden. Ms. Bielecki continued the discussion by informing the Youth
Commission of their upcoming annual presentation to the City Council. Details regarding
the presentation were discussed. The discussion was concluded with encouragement from
Ms. Bielecki to attend the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Nomination and Election of Youth Commission GUSD Representative
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki mentioned that the meeting for GUSD is
held on Thursdays and that Commissioner Cabatingan had expressed interest in the
position of representative. Commissioner Miner also expressed interest in the position. A
motion was made to appoint the commissioners.
Motion was made by Commissioner Medina to appoint Commissioners Cabatingan
and Miner to stand as representatives for the Youth Commission at GUSD
meetings. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Dorn.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
Discussion for a senior recognition event and a discussion of possible summer events will be
continued next meeting.
STAFF COMMENTS
Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki mentioned the promotion of the health video and
praised the Youth Commission for their involvement in the video.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Dorn adjourned the meeting at 6:51 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Youth Commission will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at
6:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.
