02/10/2014 Youth Commission Regular Meeting Adopted 03/10/2014CITY OF GILROY MINUTES OF THE REGULAR YOUTH COMMISION MEETING 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2014 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Chair Miner. INTRODUCTIONS None. ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT All commissioners were present except Commissioners P. Sabharwahl and Pena Tomasetti who were excused. Others present: Moe McHenry, Parks and Recreation Commission APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Commissioner Filice motioned to approve the minutes of January 13, 2014 and Commissioner Baxter seconded that motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commissioner Filice motioned to approve the agenda of February 10, 2014 and Commissioner Baxter seconded the motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. COMMITTEE REPORTS Commissioner Straub reported on the City Council Meeting. PUBLIC COMMENT None. OLD BUSINESS A. Update on Progress of Pampered Princess Party Commissioner Carpenter provided the group with an update on the planning progress for this event, which will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Willey House from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. B. Continued Discussion Re: Fundraising Efforts. Commissioners Navarro and P. Sabharwal are taking the lead on fundraising efforts and will be contacting a number of local businesses to request donations. C. Treasurer’s Report Commissioner Baxter provided an update on the Youth Commission budget. Commissioner Straub motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Commissioner Bass seconded the motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. D. Continued Planning for Annual Senior Ball on April 19, 2014 Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki advised the group that everything is on track for the Senior Ball. The band and caterer are booked and volunteers have been contacted. She advised the group to start obtaining raffle item donations. Tickets for the event are $15 and will go on sale Monday, February 24, 2014. E. Continued Planning for Debate at YAC Attack on March 1, 2014 Chair Miner reminded the group that they are leading a debate at YAC Attack. The topics are the cost of a college education, animal testing and smoking in public. Logistics of the presentation were discussed. The group will have a work meeting prior to March 1st to make sure they are prepared for the presentation. NEW BUSINESS None. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING Commissioner Filice will report on his idea for a “Youth Environmental Awareness Week” and possible partnership with the Gilroy Parks and Recreation Commission. The General Plan Advisory Committee will provide an overview of the new Gilroy General Plan Process. STAFF COMMENTS None.
