03/10/2014 Youth Commission Regular Meeting Adopted 04/14/2014CITY OF GILROY MINUTES OF THE REGULAR YOUTH COMMISION MEETING 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 10, 2014 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Chair Miner. INTRODUCTIONS Anna Bielecki introduced Project Manager for the City of Gilroy General Plan Stan Ketchum, Planning Consultants Dave Amos and Mintier Harnish, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Moe McHenry and Christopher High School student Trevor Hadnot. ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT All commissioners were present except Commissioner Spath who was absent. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Commissioner Straub motioned to approve the minutes of February 10, 2014 and Commissioner Carpenter seconded that motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commissioner Straub motioned to approve the agenda of March 10, 2014, with the stated change of order. Commissioner Navarro seconded the motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. COMMITTEE REPORTS None. PUBLIC COMMENT None. OLD BUSINESS A. Update on Progress of Pampered Princess Party Commissioner Carpenter provided an update on the progress of the Pampered Princess Party. Commissioner Carpenter discussed a conflict in the food arrangements and individual Youth Commissioners volunteered to bring items. Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Bielecki encouraged all Youth Commissioners to go and support Commissioner Carpenter at the event on the Saturday, March 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. B. Continued Discussion Re: Fundraising Efforts. Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Bielecki encouraged Youth Commissioners to continue collecting raffle prizes for the Senior Ball. C. Treasurer’s Report Commissioner Baxter provided an update of no change in Youth Commission funds. D. Continued Planning for Annual Senior Ball – April 19, 2014 Recreation Coordinator/ Anna Bielecki mentioned that tickets are on sale and posters and fliers to advertise for the Senior Ball are finalized. Ms. Bielecki concluded with an update on the status of the caterer and the band. E. Recap of YAC Attack – March 1, 2014 Youth Commissioners who attended the event shared their experiences and what they learned from the event. NEW BUSINESS A. Youth Environmental Awareness Week Commissioner Filice discussed his idea of partnering with the Parks & Recreation Commission to promote youth environmental awareness. B. Social Enterprise Presentation Commissioner Filice gave a brief presentation and overview of his business called WeAre, which is a social enterprise geared towards youth making a difference globally. Commissioner Filice solicited feedback from the group. C. Overview of New Gilroy General Plan Process Presentation Stan Ketchum and Dave Amos provided an overview of the City of Gilroy General Plan process. Youth Commissioners were encouraged to share their input as well as encourage their peers to participate in the general plan process.
