04/14/2014 Youth Commission Regular Meeting Adopted 05/12/2014CITY OF GILROY MINUTES OF THE REGULAR YOUTH COMMISION MEETING 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 14, 2014 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Chair Miner. INTRODUCTIONS None. ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT All commissioners were present. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Commissioner Filice motioned to approve the minutes and Commissioner Straub seconded that motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commissioner Filice motioned to approve the agenda and Commissioner Miner seconded that motion. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. COMMITTEE REPORTS None. PUBLIC COMMENT None. OLD BUSINESS A. Recap of Pampered Princess Party - March 15, 2014 Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki commended Commissioner Carpenter for the efforts she put forth in making the Pampered Princess Party a successful event. Commissioner Carpenter took the lead in planning, organizing, and implementing the event. It was decided that this would be an annual event. B. Continued Planning for Senior Ball on Saturday, April 19, 2014 Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki laid out a timeline for the Commissioners to meet and decorate for the Senior Ball on Saturday, April 19, 2014 as well as what time to arrive on the day of the event. Chair Miner inquired about fundraising efforts for raffle prizes for the Senior Ball and created a plan for which Commissioner would approach which business. NEW BUSINESS A. Teen Friendly Business Vice-Chair Filice asked Ms. Bielecki to obtain information about teen friendly businesses from the City of Mountain View Youth Commission. B. Youth Commission Presentation to City Council – May 5, 2014 Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki mentioned how the presentation to City Council has traditionally been done and how any creative alternatives to the presentation could also be considered. C. Critical Thinking and Reflection Exercise Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki opened the discussion by asking questions of personal reflection to the Youth Commissioners to allow for the members to consider their roles in the Youth Commission as well as their role in the community. Commissioners reflected on their individual views and shared with the group. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING Calendar of Annual Events. Summer Events. STAFF COMMENTS None.
